who new finding a date would so hard...

Cajy, 23 May, 2011 at 15:06 Posted on Planning 0 7

Just need a short rant..

First my mum says we can't get married on a monday because people won't be able to come/take time off work/take their kids out of school,

which is really annoying because my cousin got married abroad and people forked out thousands to be at her wedding (but fair enough, it was during summer hols),

and now OH says maybe we should get married in 2014!!

Baaaaaah!

(I know it's not important in the large scheme of things, just needed to vent)

We had trouble setting the date because my fiancee refused to get married on an odd date. When I tell this story people think i'm joking but i'm being deadly serious. Hopefully you can find a date that suits you a bit before 2014!

Is there a reason you can't marry on a Saturday / Sunday?

Me and O/H looked at a venue 1st where they penciled us in then we popped to our local church to speak with the Father and as luck would have it he had that day free too. The date of our wedding has no meaning to us (other than 2 days before my Birthday, but that's just a fluke) whatsoever other that we really wanted to marry this year and thats the only date the venue could do for a Saturday wedding.

Tbh, a mid week wedding would be a pain in the arse for me and my OH. He's a teacher, so unless it was during the holidays, we wouldn't be able to attend full stop. We're going to a wedding on a Sunday shortly, which is quite far away from where we live. Can't have the next day off as it is not in the holidays, so we have to drive back the same night. Bit much if I'm being honest. Of course, not everyone will have this problem but some might!

The other consideration is that people might not want to use up their limied amount of annual leave to attend your wedding. Just food for thought!

I know it's not a big deal having it on a certain date - in the end of the day what is important is that we get married. It's not a problem having it on a saturday/sunday, other than the increased cost entailed, and the fact we wanted to tie the knot the same date we got engaged (but like I said, not crucial). However, we are only inviting close family (no friends, aquaintances etc), and I know none of them are teachers! The only thing is, the argument my mum made about people not coming is somewhat invalid because my half of the family all have to come from abroad, meaning they will have to take time off ANYWAY no matter what day it is on (if it is on a Sunday, they will have to take Monday off, if it is on a Saturday, they will have to take Friday off).

Think you should have a chat with your H2B and go for what date YOU BOTH WANT and not what others want x

P.S does sound pretty special getting married on the same day he proposed too x

    WSS!

Whatever date you pick there are inevitably going to be a few people who won't be able to come. From what you've said, none of the dates you're thinking of are particularly inconvenient for a large number of your guests, so I agree you should pick a date that's important for your and your OH Smiley smile

Thanks guys, will have to have a chat with h2b I think, obviously we don't want people not to come, IYSWIM? But hopefully sometime before 2014 (my brain can't even think that far ahead)!
