Who to take dress shopping?

aecy, 6 July, 2010 at 18:41 Posted on Planning 0 11

I've just booked in for my first ever trying on session to find THE dress and now the problems start, who do i take?

My mum - My parents live 300 miles away as obviously my mum would be the first choice, although this is more out of duty and tradition than anything else (I don't think she's ever said a nice word about me) aside from that she doesn't seem that botherd about going dress shopping (I suggested it for when they are up in october and she said whats the point - I'm trying to lose weight)

My MIL2B - MIL2B lives about 6 doors down the road from us and I'm closer to her than my mum but I don't want to put my mums nose out of joint by taking her (although I know she would love it and keeps dropping hints about going)

My CBM - She is actually OH's sister but we are quite close, but (I know this sounds harsh) she's a bit of a yes man - I need someone with a spine to tell me i look c**p.

And lastly I don't want to go on my own - I need someone else there to get excited with me, so ladies WWYD?

I just took my best friend. my mum came the following day once we'd narrowed down the choices and helped with the final decison but they were the only people ever to see my dress (apart from the folk on here) as i wanted to keep it a surprise.

it's difficult enough choosing a dress never mind who to take with you to choose it. take the person you feel most comfortable with.

are you having any other BMs?? I would just take the BMs. Tell you mum you have made the appointment tho. She might love to come with you! I took my mum just for my dress. My sis was in glasgow at uni doing her exams, so I didnt want to take the other BM when she wasnt ther!

I would have gone with my mum too, but she lives 200 miles away so it wasn't really practical for her to come down for random appointments. I went to one dress shop on my own, and the other with my mil2b. My mum wasn't bothered as she realised it was impractical for her to come, and mil2b was very happy to be included. I always sent photos to my mum so she could see the things I'd tried on.

In your situation, I'd ask your mum if she wansted to come down and for you to make appointments somewhere at the same time. If you don't get a positive reaction, then go with your mil2b and/or cbm.

I tried shopping with my mum and sister when i was up north, but wasn't in the mood and it didn't help that they said nothing (actually silent) when i came out of the dressing room in various types of dresses so i ended up going by myself when i got home and sent mum a photo of me in the dress for her to see it so she didn't feel left out but i am glad i did it on my todd!

    Why not ask all 3?

I took my sister, mum, and MIL2B when I went dress shopping.

I will be going with my Mum in October but a dress shop in town has my dream dress in at the mo and want to try it on now lol

I've decided on MIL2B and CBM but my mum will only know it was me and CBM.

I took my mom to all the shops I visitied - she had an expectation in her head of what she wanted the dress to look like so I wanted to make sure she wasn't disappointed, but obviously that I got what I want. Mom has also been saving for my wedding dress since I was a wee girl so I always knew she'd come!

The day I found the dress my auntie was there along with my closest friend.

My auntie was happy to say No - don't bother doing the corset up, it's just not you

Whilst my friend knew what I - in that it had to modern and fresh.

I didn't want to be confused by lots of different opinions for the first appointment so I'm just going to take my best friend (who is also my CB). I know she'll be honest and supportive and that's what I want. Other people can come on the next appointment when I have an idea of a couple to choose between.
