Whole weekend wedding venue help needed!

LillyLondon, 27 January, 2013 at 12:06 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hi everyone

I am a newbie here and I desperately need your help! I have been engaged for a year but am struggling to find a venue, I think my ideal venue doesn't exist! I really want to hire a venue for the whole weekend, ideally friday to sunday though saturday to sunday would also be great! But can't find anything here in the South East and was just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere? We thought we had found somewhere but it turned out they had lied about having a license and had to cancel all their weddings, luckily we hadn't booked yet!

We live near London and due to some family members having bad health sadly cant travel that far, maybe two hours at a push. I have found venues in Norfolk and Derbyshire but they are a bit far and just wanted to check I haven't missed any hidden gems closer to us.

So if anyone can recommend anywhere or has any out of the box ideas do let me know! Realise its tricky one and I may have to change my criteria!

Thanks so much

Lil x

OH's cousin hired a small 'boutique' hotel in Hove (next to brighton) for the weekend when she got married. This is 2hours max from London.

It was so nice to have everything in one place and most people stayed (as it was a small hotel not every single guest could stay but some were local anyway) so we all had brekkie the morning after. It felt like we'd hired a big house with brilliant staff on the day too.

Can't recommend anywhere as Im not in the area, but we have done the same as what was mentioned above. We've booked a small country house hotel for the weekend Friday- Sunday. Depending on how many guests you are having, definitely worth looking in to smaller places. You don't mention what sort of venues you've looked at already - that might help others on here recommending something.

I've also seen some people on here having their 'official' ceremony at the register office to get all the legal bits beforehand, and then having a blessing type ceremony at a venue that isn't licensed (that way you get around the whole 'not being licensed issue').

    Good luck!

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for but I'm getting married at Smeetham Hall Barn which is right on the Suffolk Essex border near Sudbury. It's fab as its all mine from 12 on Friday until Sunday. There isn't accommodation on sight but their are LOADS of places to stay nearby. Not sure if it will be too far for you but I highly recommend seeing the place as it is stunning.

We wanted a whole weekend venue also! We saw this place on the Suffolk/Essex border & its absolutely gorgeous!

It has rooms so guests can stay. They provide staff to serve during the reception, but if we wanted it for other days/nights we had the run of the kitchen/BBQ/gardens etc to do our own thing. They could however provide a chef, or cleaner if we wanted.

They have out of season specials, but really depends what price you & the guests can afford (esp if guests are paying for their own rooms).

We didnt choose it as they only had weekdays left when we looked & it was really too big for the amount of guests we had. Also, we ended up getting married in Sydney!

What numbers are you thinking of? Could you look into having your ceremony in a nice registry office and then hiring a group of cottages/mansion somewhere for the reception?

Have you looked at the Fennes? I think you can hire that for the weekend, not sure on guest accomodation though.

This is where we're aiming for. We get the site from the afternoon before until the morning after (so Friday afternoon through Sunday morning). Waiting to have a proper look round before I can flash photos

Our venue, also in Suffolk, is only available for whole weekends - we get it at midday on Friday until midday Sunday. There's a farmhouse for bridal party to stay in but no other accomodation however there is plenty of hotels around. It's called Haughley Park Barn and is beautiful.

Hi, if you are flexible with the date, try the City Pavilion (East London). There are many others, most are booked well in advance but, if you're flexible with your date I'm sure you'll find something.

I can confirm that Haughley Park Barn is a fantastic venue and although it is on the outer limits of your travelling time you will fall in love with it if you visit. If you are interested in it you will have to be quick as I think it gets booked up for most weekends.

    Hi,

Would thoroughly recommend Drayton |Old Lodge in Norwich, which is now a hotel as well as a venue. My daughter got married there in September, and we decorated the marquee for her Alice in wonderland wedding. It was fantastic. Service an d food great and all went smoothly. Also would recommend South Farm, Royston, Cambs where my othe daughter married. They too were excellent. Fantastic food and stunning setting for photos. Both have websites but would recommend a look around.

    Hope this helps

    Lynne
