Hmmm, have you got a nice brooch you could put in the centre of the ribbon? It really depends on what the rest of your cake looks like and if you are having the tiers separated or just one on top of the other. I shall continue to think....

How bout some froofy feathers? Hobbycraft are fab for that sort of thing!!! Or an arrangement of flowers? Whats your theme?

(Possibly stupid question) Do you actually have to have a cake topper or is it just a matter of preference? I mean, obviously I know it's essentially up to the bride and groom but is it 'the done thing' to have one? I'm sure I've seen loads that don't have them and still look really nice.

We're not having a cake topper, just getting the florist to trail flowers down the side of it... £20. Job done.

Thanks all....i have thought about lumping some grapes on top but decided it would look as naff as it sounds! flowers sound like a good idea, i may pick up some black calla lillies and just position them prettily on the top or go commando as stazzle suggests. appreciate your help all x
