~*~Who's changing their name when they get married and...

mrsgreatbatch2b, 10 December, 2010 at 13:25 Posted on Planning 0 54

Has anyone got any interesting names they wish they didn't have to change.

As my name says, i'll be becoming a Greatbatch but currently can't wait to change from a Hollyoake. x

Hmm, not sure I'd win prizes for the most interesting surname gained upon my marriage!

(If I was actually going to change my name).

I shan't be putting my current or new name on here, but I will be changing names. My new surname won't require me to constantly spell it, unlike my current one though!

I will also then have the same initials as my husband. Odd!

I'm going to be sad to lose my maiden name (never thought I'd say that) no one can pronounce it or spell it and I have never met anyone else with the same... my other half has a lovely easy to spell surname and i'm looking forward to that part! (as well as all the fluffy stuff as sharing his name ...)

You can tell from my name what I'm going to be. Can't wait to get rid of my double barrelled maiden name!

No. I am not changing my name for a range of reasons, one of which is because I am a feminist.

Did you change your name during any of your other marriages, AC?

AmnesiaCustard - I am exactly the same, I'm keeping my surname because I'm a feminist. Also my OH is foreign so I really struggle to pronounce his surname properly (it is really weird and I am definitely not going to tell any of you what it is). We are still going to include each other's surnames in our names though.

Saying that, when you get married your surname changes to your husband's in many people's minds whether you like it or not Smiley smile

We are actually putting a line on our "wedding information" to go out with the invitations to the effect that neither of us is changing our name. Some of his family find it difficult to deal with but they know the score. My family are absolutely fine with it.

CB - I did the first time and immediately regretted it. I had changed it back within the year.

That is very true and I am one of the culprits of this. I see absolutely no problem in keeping your maiden name, but I must say I do automatically address cards etc to Mr & Mrs [husband's name] without thinking to check whether a recently married woman has kept or changed her name.

I will be changing my name on my passport, driving license, bank stuff etc, but I will continue using my maiden name at work. I only just changed it back last year and it was soooo much hassle. And 4 different people congratulated me on getting married - when I had just got divorced! But I'll be sad to lose my maiden name having only recently reclaimed it.

I'll be changing mine to my H2B's surname. Those on FB will know my new and old name, wont write it here.

Both names never seem to get spelt right, they're not even that complicated.

Yep I'll be changing mine - I'll be Mrs Brown! It'll be so much easier work-wise, not that I have a complicated surname but people always ask how its spelt. I'm looking forward to it! x

I am changing mine from a very common and boring maiden name to an unusual (don't know anyone else with it apart from H2B and his family) married name - I can't wait!

I'm not sure if I'll be changing my name his surname or if we'll have a double-barrelled name. Either way I would like us to be the same as I'd like our future children to be the same as us

Have just totted up from a census type website.

Smith/Jones/Brown. 2.72 % of the population. That's one over 1/40 people named this.

But of those three, you DO win!

I'm changing from one fairly common surname to another equally common one. Having said that, I will still miss my maiden name. My OH has said he dosen't expect me to change it, that I should only do it if I wanted to. Having thought about it for some time, I have decided that I will take his surname. I have been considering whether or not to retain my maiden name for work purposes, but I am now pretty certain I won't bother, as I think it will just get a bit confusing using two different names.

CB, I will also have the same initials as my OH once we are married.

I'm losing my name of Bird, which I love. Very happy to take my hubby's name but sad that there are no boys who will carry on the Bird family name.
