Who's doing your readings?

MrsA2B2014, 12 August, 2014 at 11:40 Posted on Planning 0 9

We are just finalising our order of service at the moment and struggling with who to do our readings. We are having a full mass, so have 1 reading, a psalm, then bidding prayers and an offertory.

I've only got 1 brother, so was thinking of having him do the reading. OH's brother's and 1 of my adult BM's will do the bidding prayers, 1 adult BM doing the psalm and our Mum's doing the offertory but OH is insistent that it's traditional for MOH to do the reading.

If you are having readings, who is doing yours? Interested to see if there are any patterns?

We're having 2 readings, one is being done by my sister and the other by the usher (OH's friend).

We're having a Humanist ceremony and we've chosen three readings, one of which will accompany our hand fasting. We haven't decided who will do them yet but they're all quite literary and I'm an English teacher so we may ask a couple of my colleagues to do them as we know they'd do them justice.

When I got married the first time, my then partner was Scottish and we had 'A Red, Red Rose' by Robert Burns. We asked one of his cousin's to read it (for the authentic Scottish accent!) but he didn't rehearse it at all and tripped and stumbled his way through it in the ceremony. I don't want that to happen again!

We are having two, one by the OH's sister (as her little girl is being bridesmaid and wanted her to be involved) and my Uncle.

Thanks everyone!! Have a feeling this will lead to a heads or tails moment if I'm honest.

I think we're having OH's godmother and then 2 friends. Like has been said, we want to give more people roles in the wedding so these aren't people who are bridesmaids etc.
