why are beds so expensive?

amee, 17 August, 2008 at 14:41 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 1

Our current bed is in desperate need of replacing!! Not through over-use I may add... the base of the divan was damaged when we moved house and the hole has gradually expanded to a rather large dip!!

I think we also need to upgrade to a king size or we will soon be sleeping in separate rooms!!

I went looking with himself last weekend and we were both shocked at how much they are retailing for when the quality doesn't appear to be of that good a standard.

Has anyone got any reccommendations or decent manufacturers and whether you actually get that much more room in a king compared to a double!

Thanks in advance

Amee

We have a slumberland gold kingsize. It was about £700 and we've had it about 7 years and no problems at all. It still looks and feels like new. We both have some back troubles and no problems with it. I think that's expensive, but it's done what we hoped and lasted us well.
On the other hand, the bed in our spare room was £60 from a guy in the local paper-it just about manages with the occasional guest ?
Ikea beds always seem reasonable although I think the sizes aren't standard are they?

We have an Ikea Malm Kingsize bed, with the best mattress they did (can't remember the name). It is pretty decent quality and wasn't too expensive (I think about £400 altogether). The only issue is that the mattress isn't standard size so you have to buy Ikea sheets.

Having a kingsize is great as we've both got plenty of room - which is great especially as when we were students we used to share a single bed (no idea how we did that now!).
