    Hi,

Getting married in Santorini in 2 weeks, decided to go there as its beautiful, we'd been before and we always wanted a small wedding abroad.

Altogether, including the holiday and spending money, probably looking at having spend about £5k, and thats not on a flashy hotel. We could have got married for cheaper here, but it was always what we wanted to do.

    Its in Greece.

We decided to book it through a wedding planner out there as we wanted a bit more control over it than the travel agents back here give you.

We're actually getting married in a churchyard at Sunset as we didn't want a hotel wedding. x x

I've been out at lunch and got the First Choice brochure and Santorini is in there, it looks beautiful.

Selfishly, we are looking at getting married abroad to ease the cost. We have so many friends and most of them with children, the food alone is coming to nearly £7k in the UK, so we would save money on that. And then just have a massive party when we got back for the people who didn't come.

Have you got a country in mind FMC?

Thats why we are lookin abroad, things are too much over here! if we go abroad it will just be close friends and family.

really wanted the seychelles but have looked into it and will be too expensive for guests, so thinking mauritius for the wedding, then if we can the seychelles for just us afterwards :-D somewhere exotic and hot is all i want, not jamaica though.

We've looked at Italy and Portugal, mainly because we would as many people to come as poss, so think that would be close enough for them.

Not sure what to do about the honeymoon situation yet tho.

We met in Turkey so we're going back there. Plus i started to look into a UK wedding, it looked expensive and hard work! Abroad, i've got a wedding planner who's doing everything for me! ? Plus we can hopefully get nice weather (it always rains on my birthday here in july so i'm convinced i'm jinxed!) and a nice holiday with all the family. We're going for our honeymoon 2 months later just the two of us. x

    Hi All,

I am new to this forum. We are getting married in Mauritius in September 2010. We are doing it abroad for lots of reasons, it is so much cheaper than getting married here, we love the sun, we love the beach and we didn't want a big show, we are only have our parents, brother and sister at the wedding so it will be very small. We are then having a big party when we get back.

    I can't wait!

We'd briefly mentioned possibly getting married abroad but some family members didnt seem too keen on it. We started planning a UK wedding in a beautiful church and then found out they were going to start building work on the church the month before our wedding. It obviously wasnt meant to be.

We went out and grabbed a load of wedding abroad brochures and opened the page and saw a chapel we had seen on our last holiday to Rhodes there. We didnt realise they help ceremonies there and it seemed perfect. As it was in Greece we had lots of family come out (all the initial worries seemed to have been forgotten completely) and they used it as a big family summer holiday. We all love Greece anyway so it was perfect for us.

The cost was a brilliant bonus IMO. We did everything including 2 week holiday, wedding dress, bm dress, groom, hairdresser, flowers, cake, decoration, fees, violinist, hour boat cruise, musicians, greek band, 3 course meal, wine, photographer and videographer etc for £5K. Here we looked at that for food alone and that was a buffet!

We got married at 6.30pm in August and it was still 40 degrees so you dont have to go somewhere long haul for hot weather.

Why is it that the families always cause the problems? Hehe. I really wanted to get married abroad as I've never really wanted a huge fuss and I quite liked the idea of just a handful of people sharing our special day, rather than the saga of inviting people because you feel you should. Unfortunately, OH wasn't having any of it, he was dead set against it.

There are some really gorgeous places to get married and I would love to go to Santorini!

We're getting married in Poland cause it's my family area. His family ( he's from UK) 's not really happy with it :/ Particularly parents... How can I convince them to this idea?

Poland is really beutiful, we want to have a wedding in small climatic castle. We can't afford organizing it in UK. What's more...my grandma can't travel because of her illness and I can't imagine my wedding without her Smiley sad

We think about marrying abroad because my fiancee has family in Paris, and we would like to marry with his whole family included, but his grandparents are very old and pretty scared of flying, so we fly abroad so they can see him marrying me Smiley smile I guess that is a nice idea and it would make them very happy. All for the family!

We're getting married in Tsilivi, Zante on 4th August 2011. We decided to do it over there as the cost is a lot more cheaper, but also we'll be guaranteed sunshine ?

We've asked all our family and close friends and they are very happy to come out and join us, there's going to be about 18 of us. We're going to stay on for another week afterwards to have a honeymoon as well.

    CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Hey everyone, i'm very new to all of this so bear with me!

We decided on marrying abroad mainly because we wanted our wedding day to be exactly that, OUR wedding day. So, at the risk of upsetting people who want/expect the big traditional white wedding, we've decided to go abroad (New York) because it is a place we have both been fascinated by and always wanted to go to. We both have the same romantic vision of the city and all the lights. It's looking to be a lot cheaper than a UK wedding, and it means we can have a truly personal day surrounded by only the closest of our friends and family.

Hi there. We're getting married in Mauritius in March 2010. Mainly because its so much cheaper than London, but we also have alot of family in South Africa and for them its just a quick 4hr flight over. So we're having a great big family reunion for the wedding, expecting almost 60 guests. Its a nice way to make a holiday out of it as well,

Some couple decides to marry abroad for several reasons. Some marry because of their love for the country. They could have a very good experience that’s why they want to celebrate the most memorable part of their life in that country. Some would say that they love the culture and places. While some would say it’s cheaper. ?

I don't Know the Exact Reason Why We are Marrying Abroad, but My Fiance and I are considering a honeymoon in Europe after our wedding next summer (end of June beginning of July), but we don;t know a lot about Europe. Where are great tourist locations to visit in Europe? Is there anything we should avoid? We are hoping to go to several countries on our trip.

We're getting married in Sri Lanka. My brother is getting married in the Uk this year and has spent loads of money for not really a lot . Also my H2B didn't want the big wedding here.

Cost wise for 2 weeks in Sri Lanka a week in the maildivesw and wedding package is £200 shy of 5k but we get what we want.

Hi we are getting married in Cyprus next easter and we are really looking forward to it, My H2B didn't want a big wedding and since i've been married before we decided to do it abroad, we are taking the kids and witnessess and thats it - we are planning a party for family and friends when we get back.

everyone was ok when we told them about our plans and since we've been together for 20 years a bit surprised as well!!

the only thing i have left to do is find a dress - anyone know of suitable wedding dresses for an informal cyprus wedding? xx

We were supposed to be getting married in Cyprus next month! Had it down to the hotel we were staying at, the time of the ceremony, the company we were using for the cars

But unfortunatly due to maternity leave and us getting our own flat at the end of last year, we just couldn't afford it! I'm gutted!!

Still looking to get married abroad, probably not til 2012 now. Mainly coz of the size of OH's family

    xxx

I am getting married in Mauritius for many reasons, politics of arranging a uk wedding have got so complicated now, also I have lost both my parents and very selfishly, do not think I would be able to cope with a complete UK wedding day. We are holding a reception when we return. Will have our ceremony recorded and will show the DVD, have the speakes and the cutting of the cake ect.

My H2B and I felt it the best way for us, bless him he has been very understanding.

One question though, does anyone have any ideas how to work the first 3 dances? Tradition says both bride and grooms parents dance on the second song?

Don't want to cut it short with just our first dance but no clue what to do?

We're getting married in St Lucia as it is where H2B's family are from. Being Greek Cypriot myself, I have a HUGE family and to do a wedding in London would costs us at least £25K which we can't afford. The ceremony and reception over there will cost us around £10K for about 40 guests.
