Why did you pick your venue?

1000weddingsundermybelt, 30 January, 2014 at 12:32 Posted on Planning 0 45

Obviously price is a major factor but what one reason made you choose your venue? Photo opportunities, the reputation, the menu, the wedding coordinator/staff, etc

It was always the venue we wanted due to it being a historic house. The scenery in the place & all the rooms mainly. We grew up always visiting here and doing the same with our son so didn't want anywhere else.

    The building itself.

The gardens - they are all walled & so contained (we have a number of kids coming)

The fact that we get the whole place to ourselves so have a beautiful hallway, ceremony room which then turns into a soft seating area, separate bar & then the wedding breakfast hall.

The fact that they knocked off £1500 because of the date of our wedding also helped too. ?

Given the bad reviews on trip advisor and the rude staff, I'm pretty sure we went with it because of the beautiful views and the stunning gardens ? *fingers crossed*!!

    The beauty of it.

    The location.

What we get included for the price.

The fact that they are quite flexible in what we can have / do.

    Exclusive use.

Accomodation on site and a Premier Inn up the road.

beautiful interior in case weather is bad

Cottages on site for us all to spend the night before the wedding and provide "family home" atmosphere

The beauty of the room where we have the wedding breakfast and evening reception

    Exclusive use

Ceremony at Northampton Guildhall - picked because it is a lovely gothic style building which fits our theme, it is a central location in town, and my parents got married there.

Wedding breakfast at Pizza Express - picked because we both wanted something a bit different and didn't want to be tied to a caterers menu, we both love Pizza Express and it is 'our' place, and it is right opposite the Guildhall!

Evening reception - we just wanted to hire a room and do what we want to it and provide our own buffet, so we have hired a room at a local golf club, wouldn't necessarily have been our first choice but there are few places that allow you to take food in, and it is only 10 mins from the other venues.

Because as soon as we walked through the door we were made to feel unbelievably welcome by every single person we came across. also it is a really nice building which you get the run of for the day and has rooms for everyone to stay over which are included in the venue hire.

i am also very pleased with that since we booked it every person we have told that has been there has said it was brilliant although obviously that didn't influence our decision at the time!

We chose our venue because of the very pretty grounds and river view. It also had a package that was absolutely perfect for us and the small wedding we wanted. Our coordinator there is brilliant too.

The journey there (along a peninsula) takes my breath away everytime, regardless of weather. And I fell in love with the huge windows and high ceilings. I just couldn't get it out of my mind and once we realised it was in budget, there was almost no decision to be made!

Because we took the lift to the restaurant and it looked like a scene for a bond film. 2 seconds previous I'd mentally ruled it out because its was over budget, so I negotiated HARD

They were the only venue who would let us do whatever we liked. As long as we spend the amount they would normally make on a Friday in April, they don't mind what time and what we have for drinks / eats / entertainment. Very flexible, super cheap (ish), beautiful venue, oh and the size, we're only having about 60 people inculing "all" the evening guests, and when I was turning up at other venues they kept telling me "this room would be great for 200 people".... NO - you aren't listening to me! *ranty-rant-rant

We had viewed loads and I thought I had my heart set on Gosfield all but it was a bit too small for us (not the actual building but for the amount of people they could cater for) anyway we viewed Hengrave Hall and I just loved it, stunning, beautiful room where me and OH can go have a drink on our own after the wedding with the most beautiful stain glass windows, a lovely sitting room for OH granddad (who now has passed away) and then, we went into the room where we would all have breakfast the next morning and I saw a clock on the wall and burst into tears, it reminded me of my grandad and made me think it was a sign to say 'yes go for this one' might seem silly but it sold it for me (along with great food / service etc)

    Also the church is stunning

We're having our reception in one of our locals. It holds loads of memories for us from great nights out and we know the owner (he grew up with H2B boys) so the evening buffet is at cost, wine and champagne at cost and we're paying nothing to have the venue itself. H2B chose it, I wanted something a bit bigger but he had his heart set on it so I agreed. It also has a gorgeous outside space with a fabulous willow tree for photos (weather permitting as we are marrying in November).

Our main motivation was the personal connection. We wanted to get married somewhere that meant something to both of us, which ruled out either of our hometowns. Thought about London (where we live) but there were no obvious choices for venues and it would have cost more. So we decided on one of our university colleges because that's where we'd spent the first few years of our relationship. We enquired at both and his (University College, Oxford) was available some 8 months before mine (Clare College, Cambridge) would be, so we went for Oxford!

We actually got married at another college just across the road, because Univ isn't licensed for civil ceremonies, but we had our blessing and reception all at Univ.

Of course, it helped that they were both beautiful, conveniently located and not too expensive, but it was mostly just because they were significant places for us. We never really properly scouted for any other venues.

    1. It's Hever Castle.

    2. IT'S HEVER CASTLE!

haha, but seriously, gorgeous medieval castle with private Tudor extension for wedding, reception, and rooms for guests. I think about 80% of our budget was paid out to them, but it was HEVER CASTLE!

Price, that we could choose our own caterers, that he the drinks prices were reasonable, the staff seemed very good and switch on, the venue was lovely and not too formal and small enough so that our small numbers didn't look silly. And that we were the only wedding on the day

I got the same reaction from my OH coming out of the hotel as I did when we found our first home. If he likes it that much then it's for us.

I probably would have gone for something different, but that's not to say I don't like it.

The outside and the bar area is beautiful, it's just the function room that lets it down a bit.

The staff are lovely, the food is gorgeous and it's centrally located between both our families.

My venue is a beautiful house in a park that I used to walk through when I was on my way home from school many years ago! It was derelict then and has since been restored to a really high standard and I fell in love with the inside as much as I had always loved the outside. So, it holds many memories for me and the price was the clincher Smiley smile
