why do people think these things work (send to 20/50 friends etc )

I am mightly pissed off this morning. Got up to find an email from a friend that I thought would have known better but she's sent the email to 20 people with a CC to some crummy company with our email addresses etc so that she qualifies for 200.00 of M&S vouchers. I am about to send one nasty reply, but think I need a cup of redbush and some toast before I offend her... Its bugs me as I have spent ages getting a clean email address that only friends and companies that state they won't sell my address on use and I don't get dodgy spam or anything. I have a trash account that gets used for everything else and I just check it and delete most without opening. I'm going to have to start again aren't I.?

yours one mardy moo this morning (not helped by the warthog that slept next to me last night)

That's interesting - I also got this email today - the text just read 'looking forward to my vouchers' and there's an M+S related attachment. I assumed it was a virus and deleted it

That is annoying, but the company can't send you advertising messages unless you opt-in to these with them directly. I'm guessing that they will then contact you to ask if you are willing to receive communications from them. If you do start getting stuff from them, then you can report them to the DMA.

Oh, and in your email to your friend, make sure you ask for your share of the £200 vouchers for her using you to get them. ?

She has definitely forwarded it as there is other personal information in the email as she has a chat.

We are fully protected virus wise.

It is nothing to do with the company, it's just spam for idiots.

I have just had another about, about Madeleine McCann!

Must be the day for it

I got the M&S/persimmon one yesterday too - twice. I just replied saying 'it's a hoax' and adding the snopes link. But it's always from the same people who are canny enough in real life but appear to believe everything that comes via email.

I think people just well don't think and send them on anyway. I always send back snopes links.

I got that email also yesterday

I get loads of these type of emails i just delete them, normally they just come from one person and despite me asking them not to send them they still do.
