Why is everything sooooooooo expensive??!

MrsWinwood2B, 11 March, 2010 at 16:04 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi, just a bit of a moan really, because I feel like I'm being ripped off by a couple of people, and I'm such a wuss that I never complain about it, but then I feel resentful that I'm paying so much over the odds! My make-up person is charging me £80 to do my make up alone, and it only took her about 25 minutes at the trial! She did do a really nice job and she was a lovely girl, but still, £80??? I don't feel like I have any other options so close to the wedding, and so I've just taken the attitude of "sod it" it'll all be over soon and we can get down to paying off the credit cards....

And I've just phoned the lady who's doing our flowers at the church. I could have sworn that she told me it would cost £40 for a white pedestal arrangement when we met up a few months ago, and now she's asked me for £90! I know it's not much compared to a florist, but it's another expense I hadn't budgeted for. I seem to be hemorrhaging money this month! Please say it isn't just me...

That's probably more than a florist would charge! Are you sure that's just for one?

I've been shocked by some of the quotes i've had for various things. on subject of flowers for showing EXACTLY the same picture of what i'd like to 3 different florists (table centres) 1 quoted me £90, another £70 and the other one £50.....for the same flowers and arrangement (it's not even particularly lavish either) as we're having 12 tables this is going to be really cha-ching whoever i choose!!

entertainment quotes seem really high as well. the highest i've had so far was for a close up magician which he quoted me £595 for 1 and a half hours!! i mean, he was good but in my opinion that's rediculous!

also ive seen that you can shop around for the same dress as well - i've seen the same dress in 2 different shops one was £1300 and another shop £1195 for exactly the same dress. like anything i suppose, it pays to shop around

I really don't think it's you - but you're totally right - so much wedding stuff is such a rip off! Sometimes I don't take it in, and I think 'oh £280 for a cake, what a bargain.' and then I'm like errrmmmmm.... That is actually sooooo much money! I feel like I'm being really sensible, shopping around where I can, but still going so over budget. Maybe our budget wasn't that sensible in the first place!

Weddings are expensive and I swear when you mention the W word the quotes go up.

When I had my son christened I had a 2 tier cake made by the lady who did my wedding cake. It had loads of detail on and must have taken her ages and it cost me £60. My mum then got married a few months after and the same lady did her cake. She had 2 tiers the same size as my sons cake with very little detail as she wanted plain (had flowers on the top which I am sure take lots of time and fiddling) and yet it cost almost £160.

    Hi

My budget is really low and I've spent a great deal of time looking for cheaper versions of the smaller stuff. I've found some really nice favours and stuff on a website called www.myperfectweddingshop.co.uk. I'm not advertising but it seems to be linked to Amazon so it seems to be reputable. Has anyone used it?

    Cheers

    Amy
