Why is underwear shopping so hard? Just a rant.

Kerrypug, 30 June, 2015 at 13:28 Posted on Planning 0 7

My dress fitting is in 2 and a bit weeks, and I'm trying desperately to find some undies! I wanted a basque to reduce visible lines under my dress. I definitely CANNOT go braless/strapless. All basques seem to be designed to be worn strapless if you want, so the insides are all lined with the sticky stuff that stops it from moving, but all that does for me is causes bulges at the top, which is the opposite of what I want! I also don't want to spend a fortune on something I'll wear once, and having big boobs doesn't help in that department. It's amazing how fast the good ones get snapped up! I just want to be comfy and seam free :-(

Also - WHY ISN'T SIZING UNIVERSAL?!

Raarrrrrrr

Might not help but I bought the wonderbra strapless bra that has the "built in hands" lol in nude and white lace. They go up to bigger sizes and actually hold everything up! It only cost me £20 from their outlet shop.

Alternatively check out Debenhams or John Lewis, they have great sales sometimes.

A friend recommended this bra to me and I bought one - I was impressed but there's no way I could wear it all day. I definitely need the straps haha

I had this exact same problem. I'm a 34G and really wanted a strapless basque that was going to give em a bit of support and a nice silhouette. I ended up buying one from Boux Avenue, it was resonably priced and came with removable straps, it sounds like this could be what you're looking for.

I've bought a shapewear slip from M&S to smooth out my bulges. Not exactly sexy but really does the job. It's one that you wear your own bra with so none of the issues I often find with bodies etc.

Unfortunately I bought a beautiful silk bra and realised at my fitting yesterday that the edges of the cups show so I've got to go bra shopping again.

If you do go for shapewear I recommend a slip instead of shorts or body as you don't get the lines/bulges at the legs and it's much easier to go to the loo.

    Two suggestions:-

    1) Have you been to Bravissimo? If not, go to your nearest store, it's worth the trip, tell them about your dress and ask them to sort you out.

    2) Buy one of these - https://www.blissfulgifts.co.uk/smooth-corsettorselette-32a46dd-p-516.html?osCsid=afd987c84db4edf5f7246670fca7ec3e - I know they're expensive but hunt on eBay or check your local bridal shop (they're quite a lot cheaper in my local shop). I am an E cup but I don't need a bra in my dress, the girls in the shop said so and I've tried it without the bra, so I'm happy. However, before finding that out I had every intention of buying one of these. I was put in one by a shop whilst I tried dresses and it was so wonderfully comfortable and gave a really smooth line. You can always wash it and put it on eBay afterwards.

Another vote for Bravissimo. They're not ridiculously expensive and the women are amazing! They're used to dealing with large boobs so I just let them do their thing and they've never got it wrong. Bring a picture of the dress with you and they will be able to point you in the right direction. With John Lewis / Debenhams / M&S etc I find they don't really know what to do with anything above a D cup and unfortunately that ship has long since sailed!

I feel your pain. Honestly, I have enough trouble buying NORMAL bras never mind white strapless wedding ones.

I can be anything from a 38K to a 42J depending on the brand / style .... and then even when I find ones that are the right size sometimes the style or fit can just be so wrong for me that they still don't work. I've never in my life had more than 2 bras at any one time that fit me properly.

Even with bravissimo, ewa malichick [sp?] etc. I can never get a perfect fit.

And WHY do most "DD+" ranges stop at a G. IT'S NOT FAIR!! lol.

I currently have around 6 bras that are around 90% perfect but they all have issues of some sort or another.

My boobs aren't even that big that's what really irritates me! You don't look at me and think "K cup boobs!" if you see what I mean!

    And Breathe. Rant over.

If you find a good one, let me know!
