Will he/I stand on my dress?

phnee, 19 May, 2010 at 12:50 Posted on Planning 0 5

We are doing a waltz for our first dance but my fiancee is worried about standing on my dress as we can't have a practice in it or he will see it. It is an A-line dress with quite a long train, although they are putting in something so I can hook up the train for dancing.

Did anyone else experience this and does anyone have any tips?

Hmmm. I had an A line dress with a long train. While he didn't stand on it, I did and fell over during our first dance! Then we had a ceilidh and I fell over again MANY times. It was all good fun though!

I think the only tip is to make sure you have a bustle added AND a wrist hook. And take it very slowly.

Hehe, this is one reason why I'm having a short dress!

Maybe the dancing will be okay as long as he always goes backwards ?

I had an A-line dress with long train for my first wedding - the train was detachable so wasn't an issue. A friend of mine had a train with a hook at the back for dancing and that worked well too. If the dress is the correct length for the shoes you are going to wear (make sure you wear them or a pair of the same height when you go for your fitting) and you hold yourself upright then neither of you should step on your dress. I managed a seriously mad ceileigh in mine. My ballroom dancing sister said its all about posture - remember the scene in Dirty Dancing where he is teaching her about personal space when dancing, that is what you need to practice. Don't fret about it you'll be fine!

The most amazing dance I have ever seen was another friend of mine and her hubby doing a Viennese waltz around the entire dance floor - the dress just flowed! AAhh so lovely.... Oh and they were beginners ;-)
