Will you have a bag on the big day?

2013_Bride_, 16 January, 2013 at 14:58 Posted on Planning 0 31

Hi,

Did you / will you have a bag with you on the big day?

I've never really seen a bride with one (although you would leave it in the car so its not in photos etc I guess!)

But surely one is needed to keep lip-gloss, mobile phone, etc? :-)

My BM's will look after my lipgloss I imagine, and my phone will be well and truly left at home!

Nope! MOH will have lipgloss if it needs redoing for the evening, and phone will be inthe bridal suite....why would you need it on your wedding day?!

    Money too.

Will have to organise a bar tab.... And have stern words with OH that he is not to buy everyone drinks on it!

I ended up needing one at my reception because as the night rolled it was hard to expect my BM's to keep up with it. They too didn't have pockets, etc to hold onto my lipgloss so it was handy to have it at the table should I need it. Good luck!

I didn't have one and I've never seen any other brides with them either. I didn't need my phone, or any money, and I left my lipstick in the closest guest room which was already nominated as being available for me to use the bathroom for the day!

Couple of tips to minimise the need for a bag:

    - give all suppliers someone else's phone number (I chose my brother, he was an usher so generally being very helpful anyway)

    - if people need paying on the day, give someone else trustworthy the job of making sure it happens and give them the money before hand (again I chose my brother)

    - anyone with a handbag can take your lipstick, doesn't need to be a bridesmaid.

I'll probably have all the usual crap I carry around in my handbag hidden under a table somewhere, or left with my mum.

Though I could always hang it from a hook somewhere, make a big flower to attach to it and disguise it as a decoration ?

I bought a bag for the sole reason it was pretty and matched my shoes!

I kept my lipstick in it, along with party feet and the key to my hotel room. I could easily have palmed those things off on other people but it was so shiny!

I'm not having a bag. I have told my Dad he has to have a suit with big pockets so he can look after my cigarettes and make up. My mate had one when she got married though, it matched her shoes and she just put it out of sight for photos and stuff.

I think I'll just put my stuff in someone else's bag like my Mum's! I get a very shiny face very quickly so will want my face powder to hand as well as me lippy x

Use your bridesmaids to hold everything! They usually have a wee purse or something, I wouldn't hold anything as the bride because it will just get in the way, and notably into all the photos. Just hold your flowers Smiley smile

My BM's had bags, though they didn't bring them down the aisle, so I split my stuff between them and my Dad's pockets. H had all the money for paying suppliers.

I've got one. I want one to hold my money, my lipgloss, and my camera. I know this sounds berserk, but most wedding photos are usually of the bride and groom, and I want to take photos of my guests having a laugh, a drink, a chat.

I won't hold it whilst I am walking towards the registrar - I will be holiding my flowers, but my Mum can have it, but I will need it after the ceremony. I am lost without a bag.

Fortunately my h2b is wearing a kilt so will have one of those handy pouch things!! Haha I think it's called a sporran Smiley winking

I can't think of anything I would need really except lip gloss and paracetamols - I have a very annoying habit of getting headaches when I get excited!!

No, but I know that I'll get empty hands syndrome and find myself always having to have a drink in hand - will have to make sure some of them are soft drinks!

I'll stash things I need somewhere!

Yes,because I saw a bag I liked and bought it! Will have make-up, phone and anything else I deem necessary on the day. I know I don't need it, but it's cute and I will also use it on HM.

I will be having a bag as I need it to carry all my diabetic paraphernalia around ☹️

Mum said she would have it in her bag, but I know she won't be staying past 9pm and I'll need at least one of my insulins after then! And we're not in a hotel, so no where to stash stuff. One BM also needs one for her epi pen, so we're all having matching ones.

Not carrying it down the aisle though, she can have it then ?

I did and I was glad of it, it had my lip gloss, phone, bits of make up, painkillers and a bit of money in case I needed to buy a drink in it. This was it.

I just bought this from Debenhams (£7.50 with free delivery, woop). I didn't want to spend much as no-one will really see it and I doubt I'll use it again but I definitely want one on the day for make-up, paracetamol, indigestion tablets (!) and maybe a few pennies just in case.

I had a bag on the day - a lace one to match my dress.

Before the ceremony (which was in the same venue as my reception) I had my sister place it on my chair at the wedding breakfast so that I didn't have to worry about it at all during the ceremony.

In my bag I carried my lip gloss, a mirror, some tissues, extra touch up make-up, some headache pills (just in case) and my own camera (soooo glad I had that for fun candid pics).

I would have felt awkward without having a few personal bits with me at the wedding breakfast and into the evening. But I would say that if you're not getting married at the same venue as your reception then maybe have a bridesmaid or close friend be responsible for your bag, making sure it gets to your chair for when you need it.

I'm not having one. My mum will prob have one so I'll give her all the things i need. Mine will be lipgloss and yellow powder (reduces redness!) and maybe some flats (the ones that roll up!)

Im going to have one as we are not in a hotel, we are getting a room for all our paraphenalia (sp) so going to leave it there before the ceremony and prob just have it with my mums/friends at the evening. I'd be lost without a bag but wont need it during the ceremony/breakfast.

I'm thinking of buying handbags for my bridesmaids for them to carry at the reception after photos. I thought during the ceremony, partners or friends can keep hold of them.

Definitely having a handbag to carry touch up make-up, camera (if i actually get round to using it!), mini hairbrush, mini hairspray, things like that. It keeps all my stuff in one place rather than asking various people to keep things in their pockets (easiest way to lose stuff IMO). My Chief BM will look after it for most of the day.
