Will you have any tattoo's on show on the day?

MissMeaghan, 12 April, 2012 at 14:32 Posted on Planning 0 38

I have been considering getting a sentence/phrase down my spine recently. (Will be very pretty and girly and feminine) so I think it will compliment a wedding dress rather than stick out like a sore thumb. Do you have any that will be on show or are you covering any up? Just looking for opinions ? x

I'm not sure about this as I havent found my dress yet but I have a very tiny one on the inside arch of my right foot so unless I have a short dress then no it wont be on show. I have one, but I'm not a fan of having them on display.

I don't have any tattoos, but think that people who do shouldn't cover them up. I would think though, that if you don't have any and are considering your first, perhaps wait until after the wedding in case you decide it's not for you.

I have tattooes, and they are in the places that they are so that they are/can be covered (foot, back, side). The one on my foot would be on show if I lifted my dress but other than that not. Personally I dont like to see tattooes with wedding dresses, but I am not you, its your body and you do what you want, and makes you comfortable, its nobodys business but yours!

I have a hummingbird on my left shoulder blade that will be on show, which was the plan when I got it because I got it in memory of my grandparents who sadly passed away.

I also have a feather on my foot that my shoes will show, but the dress I want is long so you wont see it unless I choose to show it Smiley smile x

I have stars down my back from the nape of my neck to my bra strap on one side. I love my tattoo, it's part of me and it will absolutely be on show, I will even probably be asking for a nice arty shot of it as I don't have any.

I may have a veil which will cover it for the ceremony.

Amen! Haha I agree think maybe i'll find my dress, then have the tattoo drawn on and try my dress on to see what it would look like with the dress before I get it. Thinking about it, it would be covered slightly by my veil for the ceremony anyway ? x

Its up to you and it totaly depends on what look you are going for, personaly i will be covering mine up if the dress i choose doesn't cover them. i have 2 that would be on show one of those i HATE and is on my to do list to get removed. i would rather wear a dress that i didn't like and covered it than have it on show.

Emze you can get really good cover up make up for tattoos so I'd go for a dress you love rather than worry about it!

My tattoo won't be on show because it's on my hip.

OH has loads of tattoos and you can usually see them through his white shirt ?

I have quite a bigish one on my right shoulder blade, it is praying hands with a bible and some rosery beads and has a senstance underneath, i had it for my uncle who was killed a few years ago, my fiancee hates tatoos on girl and reakons i should have a veil to cover it up but i like it and it is an important tattoo to me so it will be on show as i dont really want a viel!! but i think tatoos are part of who you are so shouldnt be covered up! ?

I do have tattoos, but given their location, they will be hidden by my dress. However, with that said, if they weren't covered by my dress, I wouldn't try to hide them, they are part of me so I'd be happy for them to be on show.

I don't have any tattoos as they're really not for me, but if they ARE for you why would you worry to cover them up? I think they can look so cool - I wouldn't worry if I were you.

I have 6 tattoo's of which 3 will definatley be on show as they are on my wrists and finger and 2 may be on show depending on the dress/shoes and hair. I am proud of my tatts and they are a part of me, would def not cover them up.

I think a tattoo down your spine sounds lovely. Do you know what you would want written?

I don't think any tattoo's would stick out like a sore thumb with a wedding dress anymore.

I have 3 tattoos, 2 are in places that are basically hidden most of the time and the other one (my first ever tattoo) is a butterfly that's a bout an inch or 2 in size on my chest just under my collar bone so is on show most of the time!

I think it's very feminine and I love it still , even 8 years on! It will definitely be on show on my wedding day and I've even just recently gone and had it re-done and coloured differently to make sure it is looking it's best on the day ?

Also asked for it to be added in on my bespoke cake topper I wouldn't be me without it!

On the other hand, I have/had an eyebrow piercing this I have now taken out, it's out 4/5 days a week now anyway with work but mainly took the plunge to lose it as didnt want to have it on show on my wedding day!

If you have a tattoo then why on earth would you want to cover it up for your wedding day? It suggests that you are not happy with it? Or that you will spend your wedding day pretending to be someone your not.

None of mine were on show throughout my wedding day, neither were MrMinis but both of our flesh tunnels etc were. Our wedding what about us and out personalityes, not what a tradtional bride and groom should look like.

There was great thread about this about 2 years ago, someone proclaimed that all women with tattoos are "chavvy slappers" went down in Hitched history.

I have quite a bit of ink and wouldn't dream of covering up anything that wouldn't naturally be covered by my dress - I paid good money for them and they're a part of me!

The ones that will be on show are:

a big back peice of a russian doll and flowers a

a nautical star design on my shoulder (not a big fan of this as it was my first when I was young and naive but who cares?!)

a half sleeve on my arm - the inside is a circus girl with bunnies, the outside is a balloon with big eyes and bunny ears and the background has red heart bubbles and a shaded sky - this could be a full sleeve by the time I get married next year!

a design on the inner arm on my right side of a naked girl falling through the sky with birds flying round her

I love tattoos, and have 2 HOWEVER I am not keen on seeing them on brides - this is just personal opinion, but it's how I feel. One of mine is on my hip, another is on my back - when I got both, a consideration was whether it would show in a standard ballgown (I go to quite a few balls) and of course this kind of covers wedding dresses too!

I'd love an elongated tribal-style sea-horse on my lower leg, in that slight dip where the calf muscle meets bone - but I just can't imagine it with a cocktail dress!

Yup - love my back tattoo, and I knew I wanted a strapless dress so was very likely it would be on show, so considered how the dress sat with it too. Its big and its possible that some people won't know about it and may be shocked... but what the hell! OH doesn't really like my tatts, and I did ask him if he wanted me to look into covering it - but its so big that he was more concerned about me leaving makieup all over people than it being on show. Somepeople have asked me how I'm going to cover it, assuming I will be, and been shocked I'm not, but don't get that personally! This is it - I think is a piece of art (but I am biased) sorry its so big (and raw looking this was taken just after it was done.

It showed when I was a BM too - and the bride (one of my BMS) has a lovely back piece of stars that will be on show too!

    wow!

    Another chavy slapper here!

I got a Mauri tattoo done when I was living in NZ, the various parts of it represent me and my family. Always wanted to get some cherry blossom added on my back but I don't think I could go through the pain again, maybe one day if I have children then I'll add them to my original tattoo.

I have 8 tattoos altogether and 3 of them would be visible on the day but the dress I'd like will cover them, I love them and they're part of me and they all represent something siginifcant. I just don't think I would have the strength to answer questions about them if asked, especially not on my wedding day - I think I'll be emotional enough!

All my tattoos will be on show. And I'm planning to have more before the big day! Many of my guests are my fellow roller derby girls and some of them are really covered. I am excited to see how it goes down in our traditional wedding venue! I'm proud of their individuality, deffo not ashamed or embarrased. The people there on that day are going to be my nearest and dearest the people i love the most in the world, they know me by now and they take me for who i am so I wont be covering up.

Mine will be on display ? people who will be there know i have them and there is a reason behind every tattoo that i have. They are part of me and i never considered hiding them, saying that the ones across my back and down spine will be hidden with my hair and veil.

    DarkMoomin, that's beautiful.

I have tatts on both upper arms, and they will definitely be on show at the wedding. My mum keeps going on about me having a bolero - so she'll be even less impressed that I'll have a half-sleeve on one arm by the time the wedding comes around!

I have an ivy tattoo on my left leg. I love showing off my tattoo and I'm very proud of it. There's no point in having a tattoo if it's covered up all the time (that's my personal opinion) be proud of your tattoos. If people at your wedding don't like them, that's tough for them. The only reason it was covered up was because I was wearing a wedding dress I liked.

I have 4 tattoo's, one on shoulder, one on shoulder blade, one on lower back and one on foot. 3 will be hidden and one on show, but I love the one on my shoulder, but dont want any of them in my photo's, so plan to get my dress adjusted to shoulder one. Its so long anyway, that the rest will be hidden. I do regret the on my shoulder, despite loving it. My moh is covered in tattoo's and she has asked me if I want her to cover them. She has bought a long dress and a cardigan and a small jacket. Come the reception, if she wants to show them off, she can.
