Wine question

goldpants, 4 January, 2013 at 14:12 Posted on Planning 0 5

How far in advance can wine be bought?

We're not looking at anything fancy.... merlot and pinot... maybe screw cap.

And prosecco for the reception drinks/toasts.

Does wine keep for long unopened? H2B says yes of course but I'm sure I've read somewhere it doesn't. Especially the prosecco!?

Thanks x

I honestly have no idea. Might be worth a trip to the supermarket to check the dates on the bottles

I would say up to a year if it's not a vintage.

To be honest, I would wait until before Christmas 2013, as there are often so many offers on wine around that time.

I have recommended this before, but Aldi do an amazing Tempranillo for £3.59 a bottle - highly recommend it for you red.

While we're on this topic - are your venues all charging you corkage?

    Ours is corkage free.

We provide the prosecco for reception drinks/ toasting and the wine for the meal.

When the room is being switched for the evening we are moved to the bar and from then on it's bar drinks only and our wine is stored away for us to drink in the weeks after Smiley smile

We're buying the wine in bulk from a supplier we know through our jobs... we'll leave it until the end of the summer i think just on case... who wants flat prosecco!?

    Hi

For Non Vintage wine - usually 1 year to 18 months old from purchase, the wine is fine. e.g. if you've got wine dated 2011/12 it will be fine for weddings in 2013/14. If you've got wine from 2008 or before - it may be out of condition/off by 2013.

Tell you hubby you need to try 'em just to check hic!

    Hope this helps

    Mags x

Wow, free corkage, that's great! The wine package that's been suggested to us seems quite expensive...but corkage is charged at £9 per bottle so I don't think we'd save anything by buying our own anyway.
