Wine recommendations

What do you think would be a good sparkling wine to have for the reception drinks/toasts?

Neither of us drink wine/champagne so don't know what to get. We know we don't want something too dry.

Also, we have a choice of either Echo Falls Pinot Grigio for £3.80 per bottle or Blossom Hill Californian White for £4.44 per bottle - what would you get?

Sorry not sure on sparking - I just bought the best value one on offer at the time we were looking! Lol.

As for white - if you dont want dry dont get Pinot Grigio as that is dry (but also a wine I love!). So I would go with the Blossom Hill.

I would go for the Blossom Hill too because they're a good brand - love their Roses (can't do the thing above the e!). In general the wines I've had from them are quite fresh and fruity. I'm not a fan of Pinot grigio though. Hope that helps!

I'm going to be honest, I know nothing about wine and judge whether a wine is good or not based purely on the price! So from what you have said I would go with the Blossom Hill!

I'd say to stay away from the Blossom Hill, it tastes cheap and I'm not a fan of something simply described as 'white' - you wouldn't order a 'meat curry', would you? You'd want to know what it was!

Pinot Grigios tend to be dry but because they're fruity and light, they don't taste as dry as, say, a sancerre or a savingnon blanc.

For the fizz, if you don't want the cost of champagne (although Asda has some great offers on at the moment), go for a prosecco. Italian sparkling wine so cheaper than champagne. You can get some lovely ones with differing levels of dryness (I'd avoid anything too sweet, instead go for a brut bottle but with plenty of fruit favours) and at excellent prices.

Hmmm, white seems to be split. I'm not bothered about different types of grape as much as meat but then I'm not a wine drinker!

Thank you for the tip on prosecco. Going to go window-shopping now.

We've gone with a local wine, the vine yard is not far from us. That just felt a little more special for that reason and its actually really good wine.

I would tend to agree with CB, Im not a fan of blossom hill any way but would steer well clear of anything that didnt specify what it was other than white! Pinot Grigio tends to be a pretty light wine so should be easy to drink for everyone. why dont you buy one bottle and try it to see what you think?

I am going for prosecco instead of champagne on my day as I really like prosecco and fully intend on drinking nothing else so I feel special lol! I would check out co-op for deals onj wine though, they are a bit hit and miss but they sometimes have some really good offers on, they do a pink prosecco for half price at £5 sometimes and it is a really nice fruity one, worth keeping an eye out for

    Hi CM2007

The pinot grigio is a more neutral style & will go with more foods. For prosecco check out majestic wines who do deals if you are buying several cases. Or look at www.Quaffersoffers.co.uk - where you can search by price colour type of wine you need. e.g. Tesco has Maschio Prosecco Spumante at £5.99 down from £11.99 until 22/02

    Happy wine hunting

Thank you, I will check those sites out. Think I will go for the Pinot Grigio. It seems that the wine-drinkers prefer it and, at the very least, I know my mum will drink it!
