wine/champs/welcome drinks what r u all having? and how much of each??

snap, 13 May, 2010 at 16:58 Posted on Planning 0 29

I am thinking of having a welcome drink each of pimms and lemonade, then a glass of sparkling wine to toast ( cant afford the venue champagne, lol) then one bottle of wine for 3 people (is this stingy??) i know a few people wont want to drink atall, but some will want a lot, but then theres always the bar aswell right?? im not sure how much people expect. I chose a venue that was kinda out of my budget so am having to scimp on what we have whilst there.

please help Smiley smile thanks

I think that sounds perfectly reasonable for your guests. I would be delighted to receive that and it sounds like a fairly standard package to me.

We're providing all of the booze for the whole day out ours so will be allocating it differently to you. We're planning on offering G&T's and champagne on arrival and will continue with this until we sit down to eat. We're providing red, white and rose for the tables. In the evening there'll be more wine, lager, bitter, gin, vodka. There'll be port and whisky for those who want it later on in the evening. The venue is providing our soft drinks, mixers and tea and coffee.

Do your venue not offer drinks within the food package?

We pay per head which includes

2-3 reception drinks of bucks fizz or pimms

    Canapes

    3 course meal

1/2 bottle of wine per person during meal

Unlimited water & orange juice throughout meal

    Coffee & truffles after meal

    Cava for toast

Unlimites tea & coffee throughout evening

no there is a price per head for the meal, then the toast drink and weclome is priced per person depending on your choice, then wine is just charged by the bottle, which is why its kinda hard to work out ?

aslo if i do have one bottle per 3 people, this means 3 bottles per table, would you all have 1 red 1 rose and 1 white? i dont know what most people drink

How many are you having at a table?

If I was having 8-10 at a table then I would probably put out 2 white, 2 red.

People will drink it if its "there" but will be just as happy to go to the bar if its not

    xx

We are having Pimms to start too - I think it's lovely for summer, and then a glass of prosecco for toast (I actually preferred it to the champagne) then half a bottle of wine per person - but tbh I think one bottle of wine for 3 ppl is fine - as you say, some won't drink alcohol and some will go to the bar. x

Snap, what is your menu? You might find that red is more suited or the other way round depending on what you're having. I've usually seen a red and a white on the table. If you're allowing 3 bottle per table, why not get them to put one red and one white - once they see what's more popular, the venue could put another bottle of that colour on the table.

Really if its something thats going to push your budget way over then just opt for 1 bottle of red & 1 bottle of white, I think thats totally fine. I wouldnt turn my nose up if I went to a wedding and there was no wine on the table. I always think its a bonus when any wine is offered.

Or.. why dont you see if this works out cheaper (ive seen it in a magazine)

Instead of a favour you have a kinda "voucher" on the guests seating place that kinda says "please take this voucher to the bar and have a drink on us" (offering either house wine, bottle of beer of soft drink) and agree a price with your venue...

ooh thats a good idea too Smiley smile thanks, i did have favors in mind though to match my whole 'garden' theme, but i guess i have to think what people prefer, a pretty gift or a drink...which would you lot prefer?

I think a pretty gift would look better on the table but, personally, I'd prefer the drink! That's based on the favours I've received before. I tend to forget to pick them up and, whilst they're a nice gesture, the seem to have been a waste of the bride and groom's money at the weddings I've been to previously.

I've only ever had chocolates though. I used to waitress at a place with a silver service function room when I was doing my A-Levels. They'd have loads of weddings in the summer. There were always lots of favours discarded on tables at the end.

I suspect if it's something more unusual or quirky people will pick them up. Please don't judge your guests by my standards, I'm sure they'll really love your favours, I must just be a bit uncouth when it comes to them.

What are you going to have? Garden favours definitely sound different to chocolates!

Have you thought about sourcing your own wine and paying corkage? We are doing it as all my family love wine and so by sourcing the wine through a merchant (friend of the family) and paying the corkage we are getting much better wine for the same price as we would pay for the wine at the venue. You can source bottles of decent wine like this for about £2 a bottle so even with an £8 corkage fee you are probably saving money on what you would be paying gettign it staright from the venue. We are having a chabby chic tea party theme and so are serving hot tea based toddies after the ceremony, them people are gettign their own drinks till tehy sit down where we will give them half a bottle each to start (we are quite big drinkers and so there will be an emergency stash incase the waiting staff thinks there is going to be a riot!), champagne for the toast and then after that people are on their own.

    Hey Snap

I think your drinks sound just fine, I have been to weddings and have been given far less and it never worried me. As you say some people won't be drinking which means the bottels will go further anyway.

We are having a drinks package from our cateeres

2 welcome drinks (will be Pimms, Mojitos or cider we can have a choice of 2 of these being available on the day)

then half a bottel of wine with dinner

and a glas of sparkling wine for the toast (we are tuinking of maybe having a sparkling red as niether of us our big fans of champagne unless it is a Kir royal.

I know some of my guests won't drink 1/2 a bottel each but we will have to pay for drinks packages in advance so I will be telling my friends that will drink to make sure all bottles we have paid for our consumed!

I don't think people mind buying their own drinks at a wedding after all you can't always cover eveyones tastes!

I adore the little heart name holder! I've never seen anything like that before. Something like that is an excellent favour - something a bit fun and nice to keep. Your guests will love them.

If you liked the "drink voucher" idea you could combine it with a favour, thats what we are hoping to do.

We are having personalised shot glasses which we are going to fill with little foil covered chocolate balls and then have a little sign (think circle on a cocktail stick lol) saying "take this to the bar and have a shot on us"

I think yours sounds fine ?

We have a package that's bucks fizz as a welcome drink (we're hoping to substitute half for sparkling shiraz as I love the stuff), a glass of wine with a top up for dinner and then a glass of sparkling wine for the toast.

Hello! I'm new and have been reading all the threads with great enjoyment - I am getting married to my lovely fiance in April next year, and am loving all the planning!

We are providing the following drinks for our guests:

    - Welcome drink on arrival

    - Half a bottle of wine with the meal

    - A glass of champagne to toast

    - Tea/coffee after the meal

Thereafter there will be a cash bar - we think that is more than enough alcohol to be going on with!

    Our venue has a range of drinks packages the one we're having provides the following;

Arrival Drink - warm mulled wine or winter pimms (we've not decided which yet)

2 x 175ml glasses of wine (red or white) during the wedding breakfast

1 x 125ml glass of sparkling wine for the toasts

Tea or Coffee after the meal

It will then be a cash bar for the rest of the day/evening.

We're going to speak to the venue about providing soft drinks for the tables for children and and non-drinkers, possibly a large jug of juice?!

I know, I won't be drinking either though ☹️ I'm the clumsiest person in the world so I'm not drinking anything which isn't clear, I'm not risking having red stains all down my dress!!! x
