wishing tree/ alternative guest book

MillyMollie, 24 June, 2010 at 19:49 Posted on Planning 0 4

We wanted something different from the traditional guest book and like the idea of guests completing sentence starters on cards then hanging these on a tree. I have seen this in a mag somewhere. Problem is I don't know what sort of tree to get. Originally thought those gold/silver sprayed branched in a big vase then realised the cards would just slide down them. Any suggestions???

I have seen in House of Fraser a photo clip metal tree they come in different sizes and look great but can be quite expensive so depends on your price range.

have you thought about getting the branches and putting some coloured cotton/ ribbon in with them with those little pegs (like christmas card holders - like a washing line thing) you can get them in places like hobby craft. could make the colours match your scheme.

    or

instead of having the branches maybe have it line a line put some photos of you both on it from your time together add a note saying something like please grab a tag and add to the line. or if your budget could manage maybe a cheap polaird (sorry spelling) camera so they can take a picture then add a comment to it so you get the added bonus of seening who wrote it not just reading names. (although could get mess as the night goes on with drink)

    sorry its long

What about having luggage tag type things to hang on the tree by a bit of ribbon. Sort of like this?

You could have blank ones at the base of the tree, then people hang them on as they write them, so by the end of the night it should be brimming with tags! I think as long as the branches point upwards (IYSWIM!) the tags should stay put.

We just picked up some broken branches from the forest near our house and I plonked them in a vase with some red and purple sand, with some purple beads looped around them. The branches had knobbly bits that people could easily hang labels on. Then I made up these labels for people to write on:

Once these were put onto the tree, it looked fantastic and I'm kicking myself that nobody seems to have taken a picture of the tree at the end of the night!

Why don't you go and have a look in a garden centre? they've got loads of little trees in them. then you could peg them on with mini pegs?

We're having a wooden old vintage chest with a slot in the top and getting our guests to send us a postcard. In fact I've got to go a bid on a job lot of postcards I saw on ebay. thanks for reminding us!
