Witnesses

Raven, 24 August, 2012 at 12:59 Posted on Planning 0 5

We are getting married in Surrey next month and wanted to do it quietly. We thought we could ask the registry office personnel to be out witnesses but they are not allowed to do it. I really don't want to ask anyone I know as it will cause problems. I'm happy to pay a couple of people for the half hour and would welcome suggestions of where to look. I would want to have someone before the day which is looming ever closer. Thanks.

They always just seem to pull people of the street in the movies ?. If your not willing to wait maybe post something on an advertisment formum or even on here asking for someone who is surrey based and free that weekend and see if they will do it, short of that maybe you could poach someone elses guest from a wedding that is also going on that day?

Thanks Melysa, Rachel made a similar suggestion, very grateful that people are so kind to respond.

Not wanting to put a damper on things but do you not need to inform the registry office of the names of your witnesses a minimum of 2 weeks before the wedding? I dunno how different it is between civil ceremonies and registry office marriages. Might be worth checking... good luck with everything. XX
