Witnesses in Cheltenham

Soph55, 9 August, 2014 at 12:33 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hello. My partner and I have been together for years and we've decided to get married. Very low-key at a registry office with two strangers as witnesses. I'm not very familiar with Cheltenham and not sure whether people are often walking around the Magistrates Court building. And I imagine if they are, they've probably got places to be/people to see. So I'm suddenly getting nervous about finding two strangers on the street to serve as witnesses that day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When are you thinking of getting married? I'm not too far away in Oxfordshire and need to pop over to Cheltenham for some retail therapy soon if you still need a witness!

OMG I would love this to happen as I was just passing a register office lol. I am guilty that I went to pay my registrar yesterday I fantasised in my head about somebody needing a witness and think I may have subconsciously found myself a little smarter than usual!! Make sure you get there with a lot of spare time to find people though we've been warned the registrar doesn't do fashionably late!

There is plenty of foot fall near the magistrates office and while some people maybe to busy to stop lots will be walking past on their way to town so may well be happy to spare half an hour. That said in that location you are very close to town so will find plenty of people on the promanade shopping. Other options to scout for witnesses are Montpelier gardens (a ten min walk if that) or their is a waitrose with a cafe near by that often has plenty of people passing the time of day. So i am sure you will find witnesses.

Thank you all for your words of advice and encouragement. It's good to know that there's foot traffic about the area - makes the odds seem a bit more in our favour. I'll be sure to leave a good amount of time for the search. That said, I'm not too nervous of asking strangers; it's just making it happen on such a tight - and very specific - schedule that has me slightly apprehensive. Fingers crossed.

Nixy3… we're talking a week from this coming Monday. If you foresee the possibility of being in Cheltenham that day, please let me know, but I certainly would never want to put anybody out… especially if they're coming from a distance :-)
