Wooden staircases?

Cheeky Chops, 24 May, 2008 at 18:24 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

We are in the process of getting new laminate flooring for 'downstairs' and I recently saw an ad for wooden staircases - does anyone have any suggestions?

I worry this would be too noisy? Hubbie hates carpet. I want the stairs to look 'new'. Has anyone got wooden stairs?

My own feeling is that wooden stairs are very noisy but you could put a natural runner (hessian or similar) up the middle to deaden most of the sound.

We were thinking of having a company come in and revamp the stairs - saw a company at bluewater shopping centre think they were called upstairs or something?

We have a wooden staircase and it used to be a nightmare, very noisy, and really dangerous....but that could just be me as I wouldn't let us wear shoes on it for fear of it getting scratched.

Ours is open tread as well so even more dangerous.

We now have a beige carpet running up the middle. This is wrapped around the edge of each step with it being open backed.

I also think wooden staircases would be lethel with kids
