woohoo i made my first paper crane 'mobile' **flash**

amythest76, 25 August, 2010 at 09:36 Posted on Planning 0 18

excuse my daughter's tummy!!! tbh they look a bit cr@p in these pics but they are so long i cant hang them anywhere to get a good enough picture!!

Im hanging 10 cranes on each length of wire and then hanging 3 wires on an embroidery hoop.......got a long way to go!!

and need to speak nicely to my mum and see if I can hang them in her spare room for the next few months!!

xx

That's awesome! Did you have much origami experience before you starting making them? How are you attaching them to the wire? I want to do similar things but haven't practiced yet!

OOh also, have you used proper origami paper for those? I've looked for some online but it's sooooo expensive!

    Ahh thanks ladies......

sam i can barely make paper planes that fly!!! I used a youtube tutorial of all things and it was great as I could pause and rewind until i got the hang of it!!

I stole a huge reel of fishing wire from my oh, and bought some beads..I tied a bead at the bottom of the wire then strung the crane on, left a gap of a few inches and tied another bead to seperate the cranes out (if that makes sense??)

I found a plastic hand needle in our local sewing shop its long enought o go through the crane and doesnt stab me in the finger on its way out!!!

No I am using magazines and really cheap wrapping paper from the card factory!! Its 35p a sheet and 1 sheet makes 4 cranes, plus its easier to fold-I bought some a bit more expensive but it was too stiff

Ooooooh, thanks for the tip. I might give this a whirl myself. Our colours are hunter green (well, technically British Racing Green but you try finding chair sashes and bridesmaids dresses in that shade!!) and silver, so I thought about making some in each colour to dot around the room in a range of ingenious ways.

    They look fab! Well done!

Is White A4 paper possible to use or is that too thick? I must admit I do like the all White ones.

Ahh this is so cool! Months back I found some photos on a blog and we decided we were going to make some for our wedding (ours is going to have a slight bird theme).

How bizarre someone else is making some too! They look absolutely awesome!

I couldn't find all of the images I'd saved, but here are some used as escort cards (similar to a table plan)....

but I'm making some of these too....

i found it quite stiff to do the folds, but that may be my technique rather than the paper??!!

maybe get a cheaper kids sketch pad rather than use 'printer' paper?? it may be slightly thinner?

I found the pattern online (it was in the same blog post) and I have been hand sewing them. I've made about 12 so far, using old floral 1950's dresses.
