Work related dilemma - WWYD?

Ostrich, 27 May, 2008 at 21:59 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

MrOstrich handed in his notice at work a while back and was due to leave this Friday. He booked a venue for a leaving do and sent an email around to his colleagues and friends at work, inviting them to the leaving drinks. The reason for handing in his notice was because we were planning to sell our house and move away from London. He planned to go freelance, if necessary, before we completed on our sale and moved.

Due to the current market conditions/credit crunch etc. our house hasn't sold and we haven't even had an offer! His project manager phoned him today and asked if he would consider staying on in his current position indefinitely. MrOs has agreed. His resignation has therefore been ripped up and he will resign again, as an when we do sell our house!

He's now wondering what to do about Friday's leaving drinks. I think he should send an email saying drinks are still happening but it's no longer a leaving drinks occasion. He's not sure if he should send the email, but just let people turn up and tell them then.

I'd do the email, definitely. Much easier to let everyone know by sending 1 email than by telling everyone when they turn up as they won't all be arriving at the same time I shouldn't think- he'll sound like a broken record by the end of the night!

I would send an email telling everyone that he is no longer leaving but that the night is still going ahead.

I agree with this - much easier and saves a lot of explaining!
