Worried about too much pink...

GeordieBarbie, 24 October, 2009 at 12:38 Posted on Planning 0 11

Having silly wobbles lately about the wedding looking "too pink".

We're having dark suits for the men with pink ties and pink gerbera button holes. The BM dresses are still to be undecided, but i'm thinking a paler pink (only 2 - could be 1 on the day). And i'm carrying bright pink gerberas.

The reception room is very ornate so all I want in there is white linen table cloths and thinking of a fishbowl with floating pink gerbera head and some green grass. Not planning on having any flowers in the ceremony room.

Will it look too pink??

Hey! I think its fine - If you're really worried you could always expand the shades of pink you're having, add some grey/neutral colour. but I think its just fine they way it is, especially as Kirsty said not everything is pink and once the room fills up with people you'll just notice the little spots of colour here and there.

    Hi there

I'm having quite a bit of pink too but blending it with other colours. My BMs are in hot pink with a lighter pink ribbon and trim, flowers prob gonna be a mixture of pink, yellows and oranges, favour boxes have pink ribbons round them and pink sashes on the chairs. As most of the other stuff is white (not sure bout suits yet, poss grey, hot pink ties and pink gerberas) it stands out but isn't over powering. Like others have said, as long as everything isn't pink, it shouldn't matter too much.

I know what you mean and I felt that as an older than usual bride (36) I felt that too much pink would have been too OTT for my age too iyswim?

I think that your scheme sounds great together, and not too much at all. I wanted wow but couldn't ever get hubby in a pink tie so we went for silver accents too (as Tango suggested), alongside the green of his kilt. Our tables were quite plain with bold pink and green flowers and we had bright pink napkins which we hired, I was fearful this might overtake the entire table but as they sat 10 they just looked great. When I get my disk from my tog I'll show you what I mean but in the meantime I think your colours are great.

Thanks everyone. One of my bridesmaids came round yesterday and we sat and chatted and she agreed it wasn't too pink but we were thinking of what to do and what colour we could make the BM dresses if not pink. Have definitley ruled out bright pink dresses and the dress I like - i actually really like in the paler pink dress it's shown in. We tried mucking about with the colour but couldn't work out what colour to put them in. I didn't like the idea of silver but the dress I like is chiffon and so silver doesn't work - and wasn't sure about the "platinum" grey colour...

Looking forward to seeing your pics Beccy - especially your shoes as that's what I was thinking of doing too although I think my style of dress has changed so not sure if they will go anymore. I'm a bit of an older bride too ast 32 hence I think my worry about the pinkness. What colour BM dresses did you go for?

This is the dress we like...

Pale pink Platinum Cloudy (blue) Celadon (green)

Hmm - what could I do with flowers for the groomsmen and bridesmaids to avoid everyone having the same fuscia pink gerbera's as me...?

Thinking I might stick with the pale pink (there's only 2 bridesmaids - possibly 1 on the day) and the 5 groomsmen. I am thinking that I could change their flowers (depending on how expensive the choice is) so something different - maybe white flowers?? Add white and green to the pink... Apart from gerberas, I quite like tulips or maybe big hydrangias - but what would the men have...?

Also - was thinking about this for my Dad's tie so he's kinda the same, but different (I really don't want him to match the men but agree he shouldn't really clash)...

Oh goodie ? My older BM had sagey coloured dress, a wee bit, and only wee bit darker than the green dress you posted (v. nice BTW!). The younger 2 had white dresses with hot pink sashes.

With regards to flowers, I had white phalaenopsis orchids which had the hot pink centre with pink wire wrapped around it., therefore the boys had the orchids for their button holes and for the ladies corsages we had hot pink freesias. We had loads of the hot pink phalaenopsis and singapore orchids everywhere else in the venue.

OK - I think i'm stressing over nothing now.

Gonna stick with the pale pink dresses (as per the photo) and just add some neutral tones in with the flowers - white's and greens.

    Thanks all!!
