Worst RSVPs?

~Lee~, 30 July, 2012 at 19:26 Posted on Planning 0 13

My OH and I have a mutual friend who basically introduced us, although neither of us are that close to him. He practically invited himself to the wedding, and we thought it might actually be nice to have him there as he did introduce us. So I sent him a save the date. He sent me a message to say that he probably couldn't come, as he had too many other holidays booked that year, and I said that was fine, but I'd send the invite anyway just in case.

Well it's now a week to the RSVP date so I went to send him a facebook message, just to get confirmation he wasn't coming and realised he had defriended me and the OH. I just sent a message saying "You deleted me on facebook? I take it that's a no to the wedding then?". Went back a few hours later to check for a reply and found not only was I deleted, but I was now completely blocked so could no longer message or access his wall! I was a little bit miffed to say the least!! A simple no would have sufficed!

So what are the worst RSVPs you've had?

That is really odd when people do that, I discovered my ex housemate had blocked me on facebook the other day when I went to message her to arrange a catch up. Initially I felt guilty that i had done something to wrong and not realised and then i felt p*ssed off and used when it dawned on me I had been nothing but nice to her!

OP- i have a friend that always confirms they will be attending whenever we arrange anything but more often then not on the day of the event his phone will be off and will be a no show, i've stopped bothering inviting him to things now.

I had one bad experience. My friend (male) who I had known for over 10 years, told me he was definitely coming after I sent the save the date card in september, for our wedding this April. I sent out invites in jan and asked for a reply by feb. He never did (even though he had said he was coming, I still wanted to make people go to the effort of putting it in the post (in a stamped-addressed envelope I had provided, of course!). I had also asked people to confirm veggie or meat and put some song requests on the back of the card.

Anyway, I chased D and again he text me and said he was definitely coming and would return the rsvp asap. Another couple of weeks passed and nothing, so I chased again by text, and then ignored me. I then chased by email and he repied a day later (even though it was his work email and he has work phone etc) saying I shouldn't chase him, as he didn't know if he was coming as he might be travelling with work. By this point my wedding is about 6 weeks away. We had a bit of an argument over email and his whole tone upset me - seemed to be annoyed at me for chasing for a response and he said he would call me that night to discuss and he never did... I never heard from him again...

You realise who your real freinds are!

I sent an invite to my H's cousin, with a chatty note saying I couldn't wait to meet them, would be nice for H to have all his family together, and offering them free accommodation as they were travelling a long way. Several weeks later I got an email that said "we are unable to attend your function" that was it , unsigned and no other comment . Mind you I have met them since and am quite glad they didn't attend .

? I can't believe they referred to your wedding as a "function"! Talk about adding insult to innjury, especially after you'd kindly offered to pay for their accommodation!

This didn't happen to me, but to a colleague from work. She invited all the work people to the evening portion of the wedding, and one guy said he couldn't make it as it was his dog's birthday. Wtvf?

My OH phoned his sister to see if she was coming, as she hadnt responded to the invite with her menu choices. She asked if her son (21 years old) could have the childs burger option as he's fussy! Then said she'd email. Emailed to say leave them out of the food part, they are too fussy with food! I enquired as to whether they would be coming and need a seat, just not want the food or if theyd just be coming to the church and evening do, and she replied to leave them off the table plan and was there an evening buffet?!! ? That was 2 months ago and I havent yet responded to that, so we dont actually know if they are bothering to come to any of it!
