Would brides buy these...

Mrs Moore to be, 30 March, 2013 at 09:07 Posted on Planning 0 8

Yesterday, as I sat painting away my Mum asked if wished I had bought my place setting/favours. With no hesitation I said yes! I have made one for every guest with their name stamped on and they have taken hours to paint! However I couldn't find anything I was after to buy online.

Which got us to the next question... Would you make and sell them? I couldn't decide. I am not sure anyone would buy them and they are quite time consuming.

So over to the lovely brides on here...

If these came in the colour to match your scheme, would you pay to have these made? And if so, how much per heart?

They are very cute and would definitely consider buying them. Think that it's one of those things - you spend hours making them but do people appreciate all the time and effort.

    £2 each?

I know what you mean. I tried really hard to choose a favour that I thought most of my family and friends would keep. I have thrown so many wedding favours away in the past.

The size would affect how much people would pay. How big are they?

That is a good point. The dimensions are:

    7.6cm x 7.6cm x 0.6cm
    3" x 3" x 1/4"

I think they are very pretty, and I do think brides would buy them. They are quite 'shabby chic' looking and I know a lot of people have that sort of style for their wedding. I'm not sure how much people would pay, personally I would probably pay £3-4 each tops. I think. Haha.

    Thank you for your help.

I found my plum purple really hard to match and the best way I found to match my colour scheme was to buy a tester pot of paint from Homebase and use that. If I was to sell them, what would be the best way for brides/grooms to choose a colour? Should I just list a selection of different colours?

I think they are nice, & I can appreciate the work, but I personally wouldnt buy them. My 1st thought as a guest would be 'what do I do with this after the wedding???' I made my own edible favours & none got left behind.

I imagine some brides might buy them though. I'd put a max price of £2ea for 0-50 of them, but for a bulk order of say 50 or more, maybe £1.50ea for 50-100 fo them.

Are they just painted on 1 side? Do they have the wedding date/ bride/groom details on the back?

I personally think they're cute, BUT if people don't have purple in their colour scheme they're a bit stuck (unless you can change the colour?). I know what you mean though. I made up a lovely ivory postbox for our wedding (I'll try and get a photo up on here at some point!) and loads of people suggested I make them and sell them. However, by the time I allowed for materials, Ebay fees & postsge and a TINY profit for myself, I'dd be looking for £25 each! When I looked on Ebay, there were people selling them from as little as £18 so I don't think it'd be viable. The last thing you want is a room full of materials and no interest!

Good luck, and I hope if you decide to brave it you find it worthwhile! :-D

They are pretty but with all hand-made items, the main cost is your time. You mention they have taken ages to make and they certainly look as if they would take a long time because of all the detailing. A quick way is to cost up materials, work out how long each one takes to make and then add on your mark up. If people are generally willing to pay £2-£4 each and it takes half an hour to make one, you are already working at a loss before the cost of your materials even on minimum wage per hour. How about making them just for the Bride and Groom chairs instead? That way, you could make them a little larger with a few more details on such as wedding date etc., sell them as a pair rather than individually and perhaps make a little bit of profit too..? They are really nice if you can work out a way to make a profit on them.
