Would mismatched BM dresses matter??

teeheeyoucrazyguys!, 15 December, 2008 at 21:00 Posted on Planning 0 22

I have my CBM's dress which is a full length satin bridesmaid dress in navy blue. But have found two lovely dresses which compliment my wedding dress nicely in monsoon, and thought of my 11 and 14 yr old neices.

Mum can make co-ordinating sashes to blend the fabrics and colours. But the two dresses stop just below the knee/tea length.

watcha think??

Navy silk bridesmaid dress from monsoon you say? what fabulous taste you must have nona.... ?

to properly answer your question, i don't think it would look odd at all. many people have different bm dresses - hasn't futuremrslord got 3 totally different pink dresses? even if they are a different length to your cbm's dress, i think it would still look lovely.

    <ahem> pics? <ahem>

I think they sound nice, and mismatching or matchin BM dresses are purely personal taste

Thats the one ive seen in monsoon.... just pure fluke that i walked past but they only have bigger sizes in local store so they would need altered... and I dont have a good pic of the CBMs.... its just a plain ole satin full length dress that we are turning into a halterneck.

I am worried that the girls (neices) would be upset that I've chosen them too??? I've sent the link to mum and she can have a look as shes paying for them as well as altering them. My CBM wouldnt like the length of these so I wouldnt change her dress.

FML does indeed have the most fabulous different dresses for her 3 bm's. I had the pleasure of making their jewellery and was so jealous of the dresses and wanted to be her 4th bm! Anyhow Nona I think having the navy dresses would be fine.

Have you had THE call yet?

Ok ok i'm swaying to the idea...tho id kick myself if my BM wanted it too. But given you have mentioned the bust area... I'm sure my talented mother can do something to tie everything together.

as for THE call. Nope. Infact I havent had an email from them in reply to one I sent. They are closed on Mondays so who knows what this week will bring. Right now Thursday is way more important as I sign away my flat!

Congratulations on the sale of the flat. Did you try and buy the cottage you both loved?

Not yet. we have yet to make mortgage appts of our own but the cottage is on the market still so who knows....

however, I'm worried it will interfere with my job living so far out and having no licence so thats another hassle on my mind but one step at a time i say!!

we have a bottle of champers in the fridge to drink on sat night!

I think the dresses are great... I bought the black version to wear to a party on Friday... did great things for my cleavage... although I guess your mum could help out fixing that as it might not be appropriate! ?

Lol true, saying that my 13 going on 14 yr old niece is now 5ft 4 and went bra shopping the other day..... who knows what will happen in the next 7 months!

I just hope their mother doesnt get all uppity about me finding their dresses before consulting them...

There are no rules as to whether things have to match. I had one CBM and my little niece - both wore completely different dresses. I always felt that being too "matched" made things too uniformed and non-negotiable. Variety is the spice of life as they say?

    Hi Nona,

I think those dresses would be perfect for your younger BM's.

Shorter dresses are better suited to younger girls as full length can be too 'old' for teenagers, but hey thats my opinion!

If I were you, I'd go for it! I think they're gorgeous!

    Luv Victoria

    xx

I'm not having bridesmaid dresses, but asked my CBM and other BM to wear their most fabalous black dress, so both will be different, matching them up with, fasinator, pashmina and flowers, bought the flower girl a dusky pink dress.

My motto for the wedding is, wear what you feel most fabulous in!?

    Why helloooooo. ?

Those dresses are lovely! Good choice.

I don't think it would look strange at all. As others have said, dresses don't have to match - it's a personal choice - and I think the fact that the dresses are going to 2 younger bridesmaids and the adult one looks different will look good.

I agree with the comment that full length dresses are sometimes too old for younger girls.

Yeah but mylittle ones arent so little!! lol. I emailed all details to my mum but had no reply and I went to look at them today and 2 of the sizes have gone which made me wonder if a)shes gone and bought them or b) she hasnt! lol. But seeing as they have gone chances are I wont get them.... they arent reduced online Smiley sad

    thanks for your replies though!

I had my first wedding nightmare last night and part of it involved my CBM turning up at the church and her dress was all pinned etc and mum hadnt altered it so I told her to get back into her normal clothes and not to worry about being my bm!! it was all a rather scary dream....

My adult BM had a different dress to the little girls. Her dress was also a different colour to the chaps waist coats etc as the blue really didn't suit her. I think she looked lovely & it all worked pretty well

Mums shocked me by saying that buying something and adapting it would be a lot easier for her than creating them from scratch (shock horror!) but I'm happy with that. However shes also revealed my younger niece might be getting an operation at some point this year which means she might need a higher neckline and maybe sleeves.

Oh I feel a challenge coming along in order to find one. Cheers for the pics spam, I see what you mean but I do want them in 'matching as close to' colours...
