Over a year ago, a guy we worked with at the pub we managed, borrowed our bosses car under false pretences and wrote it off. It turned out he had passengers, had been drinking and had no insurance. Stupidly(?) a lot of people were willing to give this guy a second chance, (our boss included - another long horrible story), this young guy had had a bad life, problems with alcoholism in the family among other things. He managed to get off very lightly, a small fine, community service and a years probation and a suspended license. I truly believed he had learned a lesson - however a few instances in the past year weakened this. On Tuesday night he came into the shop where I work - he had been drinking. After the usual 'how are you' type conversation he then quite happily informed me that he was about to drive home (a good twenty minutes away). When I queried this his answer was 'but I never have passengers' ?? Everytime I have thought about this my blood has boiled - not only is he laughing in the faces of all those people who were willing to stand up in court for him, but he is such an arrogant *** that he can't see that what he is doing is wrong, because he got away with doing it last time - he seems to think he will again. Not only that but his boss not only gave him a second chance, he has put a roof over his head, given him a job with responsibility and loaned him the money to buy his car - among other things (a few that H and I do not agree with). I have decided that next time I see this guy, I am going to note his registration number, so the next time I see him and he has been drinking, I am going to phone the police. However, I am concerned over the can of worms that will be opened - particularly for my elderly ex boss, who, in a way, has 'adopted' this lad and has spent a lot of time with him. Part of me thinks I should leave it, he's so blatant - he will get caught. But, then again, what about the innocent person he hurts/kills?. Wwyd?
