Yes. Wedges are easier than stilettos, nothing to get stuck!

Yep, I drive in most shoes and wedges are easy because they have flat bottoms.

In principle, in some cars, yes.

In my car, no. The travel and direction of the pedals make it very difficult to wear wedges/heels.

I'd have a better chance of driving than walking in them....

They,re my first pair of wedges and when I showed my mum her first comment was that I wouldn't be able to drive in them.

I can drive in big heels so therefore on otter advice, I'll be ok. Thanks all.

Maybe take a pair of flats with you to keep in the car just in case? That's what I do in case I'm in flip flops (I can't drive in flip flops).

Me either. I understand that flip flops can be used as evidence of driving with undue care/attention/lack of control, if you crash while wearing them?

I've heard that, too. Not sure how true it is but I can see why it would be.

Yes I'd drive in those. I wouldn't do a long journey though because it gives me cramp in my leg if I drive in heels too much.

Defo cannot drive in flip flops!

We went to a party out-of-town last weekend. It was half a mile from hotel to party. I carried party shoes in bag, and the pub was closer than I'd realised so in the middle of the town I stood outside and changed from skanky pumps in to slutty heels. Then when we came out I did the self-same thing in reverse. And stormed it to the kebab shop!

I felt a bit stupid but there were a load of towie-type girls tottering around who couldn't walk in what I would view as fetish heels so I'd rather look daft but practical than as though I'd shat myself. One girl had to hold someone's hand to be able to walk and was being a right diva about the whole thing. From when she arrived, sober, right through the evening.

Apparently my (subconcious) look of disdain was so strong, H said it looked like I was snarling... Oops.

I can drive in pretty much anything but wouldn't as it ruins the heel on my nice shoes.

I keep driving shoes in the car to swap into, although was stuck in traffic so long last week in the heat I ended up taking them off and driving barefoot!!

Is it not illegal to drive in flip flops in Spain & Oz?

I always drive with bare feet. Rumour has it that it's not legal but I don't know where that came from.

Allegedly it also saves petrol, as you accelerate more sensitively.

God yes. In some cars it's the only way I am reaching the pedals.

And when it comes to braking? Smiley winking

My pedals would in no way allow me to drive with bare feet, nor even with soft soled shoes (slippers etc). They are rock hard aluminium, and the performance gearbox means the clutch pedal is mega-stiff. I need a harder sole to spread the pressure across my foot.

I also couldn't drive my car barefoot, though mine's not quite as sexy as footlong's. I might be able to drive in those wedges but would probably take flats just in case. I don't think it's flipflops specifically that are banned, just any footwear (or other clothing for that matter) which cause you to have poorer control over the car. There was a girl on the other forum I use who got prosecuted for DWDCA because she had an accident wearing a long skirt and stilettos - the heel got caught in the skirt which meant she couldn't brake properly when a car ahead stopped sudenly.

I can't drive in anything other than flat shoes. I keep a pair of ballet pumps in the car for this perpose.

i will only drive barefoot if I have to- I have a fear that my toes will get caught in some kind of machinery and be ripped off. This has always made me cautious.

its fair to say- I have an active imagination.

I find it difficult to drive in heels so I always take a pair of flats with me if I'm wearing heels and need to drive. My favourite shoes for driving are my trainers, it's about the only time I wear them since I'm allergic to exercise. Never tried driving barefoot, I also heard it was illegal but I don't know I hear lots of things that aren't necessarily true.
