Would you eat this?

LizBjk, 27 June, 2008 at 13:13 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 19

Thinking about what to make tonight. Determined to start cooking properly. I'm thinking chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella cheese wrapped in bacon. Will it even go together or do I think of something else?

Edited to add, was going to serve it with a jacket potato and steamed vegetables.

Sorry for the dull question, I'm rubbish at this. ?

Yes, it will go - I would put some herbs or maybe some sundried tomatoes with the cheese when I stufed it though, gives it some more flavour.

Hmmm. Not sure, couldn't possibly say tilI've tried a bit....

Yeah, it's something I do fairly regularly, only thing to watch with it is that your bacon isn't too salty... It seems to be more noticable when cooked likethis than when it's in a fry up.

Thank you. How long should I cook it for and at what temperature?

I'd cook in on 195 for 30 mins. I love that kind of meal with jacket potato, coleslaw and salad.

    So hungry!

    xx

Yep definatley. We do a similar thing but with a thick tomato and marscapone sauce dolloped on top - the chicken on it's own can be a bit dry I find (may be just my cooking!).

Sorry to be the voice of dissent, but I think chicken stuffed with cheese is foul (pardon the pun). On the rare occasion that the chicken isn't completely dried out, it is overpowered by the cheese and takes on a rubbery texture.

I think if you're keen to start cooking and this feels like a comfort zone, then fine. However, I think if you're looking to be inspired and excited by your new hobby, there are a gazillion better things out there for you to attempt as a novice.

I'd personally stuff a chicken breast with cream cheese, garlic, herbs, wrap the whole lot in tin foil and then bake. will stop it drying out too much and give a nice sauce. if you wanted to wrap in pancetta/ bacon i'd probably pan fry it first as oven cooking a breast wrapped in bacon in the oven might run the risk of it being a bit dry

I second carolina's cream cheese sugestion and also second lou's opinion that mozzerella will be rubbery

and also whoever's suggestion it is for the tomatoe-y sauce. can't check who said that on new hitched though ?

or you can mix cream cheese with pesto and put that in the middle before wrapping in foil. that's nice too

I agree with Lou actually. I've made this a couple of times and have found it greasy, dry and generally unpleasant.

You weren't quite sure the first time, then? ?

Dare I ask how last night's suggestion turned out?

You could stuff it with goats cheese too (I love goats cheese but realise it could be an acquired taste)
