Would you go to a charity wedding dress ball?

workinghard, 29 August, 2009 at 13:59 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

I'm organising a charity ball in March for BLISS and the special care unit that looked after my baby. Only got as far as contacting possible venues at the moment but am toying with the idea of having an optional dress code of wedding dresses, I admit it , I want to wear mine again!

So would you be put off by this?

Also any tips on organising it gratefully received! I plan on having an auction, live band, possibly a casino.

If the invitation stated 'optional wedding dress' then I probably wouldn't dress in a wedding dress for fear of being the only one. I would be put off, sorry. Not least because I'm getting rid of my wedding dress having just got divorced...

To be honest if it was optional I would not wear my wedding dress and thinking about it if it was dress code it would put me off. Sorry.

Have to agree with the others, I wouldn't wear a wedding dress, and the thought that I might feel out of place not wearing it would put me off

I would, but only if it was a specific 'wedding dress ball' and promoted as such eg, only for ladies in wedding dresses and men in something appropriate such as suits/evening wear.

If wedding dresses were optional, then no, I wouldn't, as I wouldn't want to be the only one to turn up in one!

I would, but I'm in a minority. You may need to allow Bridesmaids dresses and ball gowns to widen the scope. If you do this I can suggest an additional fund raiser where people get sponsored to slim back into their dresses, as a lot of people won't fit into them straight away. Plus a tie in with a suit hire company to get a percentage of profits to anyone who buys the garb for the event from them. As you may be able to tell, I have considered this myself. Didn't do it in the end because I'm no event organiser. Good on ideas, bad on execution.

I wouldn't. I find the idea quite odd and it seems to suggest that unmarried people aren't welcome.

Take a Break contains lots of them, for some reason that puts me off.

I've been to a Wedding Dress Ball and really enjoyed it. If it was an "optional wedding dress" then I wouldn't wear my dress though.

We were hoping to go again this year but too many of my friends are pregnant :-(

I could have done up until the last 3 months when the bump has definitely got too big.

I think just a general ball is a nice idea. I love going to proper balls and having the chance to dress up in a lovely ball gown.

I only just got in mine on the day there is no way it would fit me now.

I think it would need to be either all or nothing with the dress code

    <smug> mine wouldn't fit me now - it's a size 20 and I'm a 14 </smug>

otherwise I would love to wear it again - would be a bit of fun and it's still hanging on the back of a door almost 2 years later (after reading this thread I went and had a quick gaze at it ? )
