Would you let the name of the street put you off a house?

ForTheLoveOfMrsBrown, 13 October, 2011 at 16:43 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 21

Some "bad" street names have character. I could manage Sesame Street.

Could you live on C*ck Lane? Or Rat Row?

There is a road opposite a pub that we have been known to frequent called Rats Lane. I like it.

It wouldnt be a complete no no, but I reckon the house would have to be better than the competition. Dad and I saw a Bogey lane the other week and were laughing about how good the house would have to be to live there! (I thought you would probably have to name your house something 'golfy' to try and get away with it!)

My friends live on 'C*ck Lane' and, without fail, each time we send something to them (Christmas cards, wedding invitations etc) we address it as follows:

    Mr & Mrs X

    XXX C*ck Lane

    Snigger

    XXXXX

    POST CODE

Not that we're childish, oh no.

It would be the husband I would have to convince. We went to look at a house in 'Badgers Mount' and I swear he was sniggering the whole time....

With my choice of pets I would gladly live there!

We have been househunting recently and I came across the following that I would have seriously thought twice about moving to:

    Titty Ho

    Pratt Road

    Butt Road

    Crab Street

I wouldn't be bothered, h would. the town we live in has an odd naming system, a lot of the roads just have names without the 'road' or 'avenue' etc suffix. i used to live on viking!

h wouldn't buy a house on vandyke because it has the word '***' in it.

The last place we lived was called "The Motte". We used to get some giggles when we rang british gas etc and had to give our address xx

I've lived on a street called Beard Grove before. Spangles would have liked it.

It'd have to be really, really bad to put me off. On the other hand a really cool street name could be the deciding factor in me liking a house. There's a street near where I grew up called Tolkien Close, and one of the houses there is called Gandalf. I *need* to live there.

There's also an area round here where all the streets are named after dead musicians; Hendrix Drive, Presley Way, you get the idea!

There's a Slaughterhouse Lane near here.. It actually freaks me out a little, I don't think I could live there as I have an irrational fear of invisible murderers.

I used to live on Wild Ridings! Was quite amusing when once doing a random 'what's your porn star name' game. Can't remember exactly how you got to it other than it involved your street name.

There is one near Mr C's mum's house which is Broomstick Hall Lane, and when I lived in Cambridge there was one around the corner called Quidditch Lane.

The name Pratt always makes me shudder *was nearly Mrs I. A. Pratt once upon a time*

There is a Pratts Bottom and Longbottom too (or did you know that).

I would not want to live on a dodgily named street, or at number 13.

Nor would I want to live in Penge.
