Hi Guys,

I'd like to know if any of you would consider using a wedding planner and if so what sort of services for and roughly what sort of price would you expect to pay???

Has anyone used one and had a good / bad experience.

Let me know

    Hi Sam

We offer wedding planning. The main reason people use planners are to: get creative input, to manage the budget, to achieve more from thier budget and to relieve the stress and strain of planning a wedding. Prices vary from wedding to wedding, depending on the ammount of work that needs doing. As a guide - full service: Approx 1980 ranging to about £500 for just help on the day

Most of our customers actually find we save them as much money as our fee

Feel free to contact us for more detials

    Hi Sam

I got married in August 2005 and I used a planner, absolutley amazing, she was like my best friend, worked with me and negotiated with all suppliers to give me the best rates etc. Put me at total ease, and any last minute hic ups she sorted straight away, with no problems, the whole experience made me want to become a planner and thats what i now do.

prices vary, as lots of planners work on a percentage, I work for a flat fee of £800 for full planning and £350 for on the day.

If you are interested in a planner then its best to meet face to face, most offer a no obligation free consultaion, that way you get to meet face to face and discuss your requirements, you will know when you meet the right planner.

This is by no means meant to be offensive to any of you wedding planners (or people who've used them)- Id LOVE to be a wedding planner. And I do appreciate you do save people time and can potentially get better deals, but I really do not understand why people have wedding planners? Why would you not want to plan your own wedding? Why do you need input on ideas - do you not have your own? I find it all very bizarre...

Working via a planner won't necessarily get you the best deal with a supplier. Speaking from experience it is 100% easier for me to work directly with a client than via 3rd party Chinese whispers. I can liaise far more efficiently and cost effectively directly. But I appreciate some couples may need to have an entire planning service due to their own time limitations or location logistics.

    I agree with Prettywild.

We're using a planner for our wedding in Portugal in September purely because of the distance, the language barrier and the legalities.

I've pretty much got everything sorted myself with regards to venue, reception, decorations etc. they're just on hand to make sure we have a great day and we continue to get good prices.

I could have probably done it all on my own...but the €750 took away the stress!

I'm also a wedding planner and have been for more than 6 years. I also teach wedding planning and have more than 180 students around the world doing the course online.

I don't work on a percentage basis, I work out a price based on the bride and groom's requirements and I can do as much or as little as needed.

A lot of my brides are working full time so are not able to do any of the research that other brides have time to do. Some of them don't enjoy the planning process at all, although I have only ever found one bride who didn't enjoy wedding dress shopping!!

I don't make any of the decisions for them, I recommend suppliers based on their requirements and my knowledge of the couple and their personalities. I would usually give them a choice of 2 or 3 photographers, florists etc and leave the final decision to them.

I can negotiate with the venue for a better deal and recently saved one of my brides more than £2,500 on her venue. (her total budget is £18,000 so that's quite a large percentage)

A lot of the brides who enjoy the planning process still like ot have an on the day co-ordinator, so I also offer that service from £375.

I co-ordinated a wedding in a barn on Saturday and I walked nearly 8 miles during the day!

I wouldn't use a planner - I'm loving planning my wedding & am also a control freak. I'm a marketing manager by trade so used to planning events, campaigns, working with budgets & suppliers etc.

I am very much considering using an On the Day Co-ordinator though to keep thinks ticking along how I'd like on the day when I'll be otherwise occupied! I'd pay around £400 for this.

I can see why people do use planners, but as being engaged is bringing out my inner Monica from Friends even more than usual, I will be organising everything myself. As far as I'm concerned you can't beat a good evening doing internet research whilst equipped with post it notes and different pens for colour co-ordinating ideas, lol.

But then I secretly love moving house, so don't listen to me, I'm insane ?

Aww your not insane tina, some brides to be love planning their own wedding, i know I did, I couldnt wait to get stuck in with all my ideas that I had, they had been mounting up, I had been with my hubby now, 16 years, we had 2 children already and i wanted to tie the know, so in 2004 leap year i asked him to marry me, he accepted on the condition I planned it all, all he had to do was turn up, and thats what happened. been married 4 years on 20th August and been together for 20 years so we must be doiong something right ha ha

After enjoying planning my own wedding, I wanted to help other brides to be, plan theirs it they needed it, you wouldnt beleive the amount of mums that havent got time to plan a wedding, and then you have the career driven women that have no hours in the day, thats where a planner comes in.

I do spend a lot fo time with on the day co-ordination, making sure the whole day runs smoothly, caters turning up on time, flowers arriving, to making sure the groom gets to where he should be.

    I love my job

    Hi Lilcommoner

I was just wondering why you were asking. Are you looking at becoming a wedding planner or were you interested in finding out more about using one? If you were looking to set up and find out more, I offer help, advice and work experience to students from The Wedding Planner School and can give you advice on the best way to set up.

If you were interested in finding out about using a wedding planner, then I can advise you on what you should be looking for in a planner. Obviously it's always a great opportunity on posts such as this to blow my own trumpet but then that's not what you're looking for.

The main thing about your wedding planner is that they are experienced (even a little bit is better than you being their first wedding!), have a good portfolio, excellent testimonials that you can follow up, ideally from clients and suppliers, but the main thing is that you feel comfortable with them and you have faith in them. A good wedding planner will make your dreams come true and will make it the most pleasureable experience and a bad wedding planner will ruin the most important day of your life whilst causing you undue stress.

Also finding a planner with a qualification/diploma from one of the awarding bodies shows that they have at least the foundations of wedding planning instead of being just 'someone who enjoyed planning their own wedding'.

Feel free to look at my site www.finesseplanning.co.uk if you'd like to find out more about me and my services, but if you'd like to know about setting yourself up, then let me know.

    Hi Sam

Using a planner and for which services is as individual as the wedding itself. Brides need support in a variety of different ways from those last minute details to help right at the start. There is no right or wrong for whether you use a planner, some brides throw themselves into planner whilst others realise that to have their dream day they need to reach out for some external help.

I am part of myriad genii, occasion planning consultancy, and we offer the support and services that each couple require to achieve their dream wedding.

All the best with your big day

    mg xx
