Wrong on so many levels!! What are your stories?

mickeyandminnie, 5 September, 2012 at 15:54 Posted on Planning 0 55

A friend at work went to a wedding a few weeks ago and said that a guest was so annoyed that her daughter wasn't asked to be flowergirl she found out the woman's colour scheme - bought a dress and flowers to match with a head dress so she looked as though she was part of the bridal party!!

I thought she was being over the top but i've just seen photo evidence of it!!!! Apparently the little girl got really upset because she thought she was a flower girl so was confused when she wasn't in any of the photo's!!!!!!!

Any other big no no's you've come across at weddings?

Wow, that is really extreme!! I cant imagine any friends doing this at mine (I hope!!)

I felt really bad for my friends who got married last year, for lots of reasons they didnt want children at the wedding which his gran took major offence to and told them that she wouldnt attend unless her 6month old grandchild (his cousin) would be invited, they were basically blackmailed into changing all their ideas and it left a really bad taste!

My grandmother took the wrong button hole (my mum's) and then gave it away to a stranger before we even got to the reception.

This isn't a guest but....my gym instructor told me that she went and crashed a wedding the other weekend so could make use of the free food and drink. She then got asked by videographer if she wanted to leave a message for the bride and groom. Rather than just saying no, apparently she said 'I don't know you but it seems like you have a nice family and friends and thanks for all the free food and drink'

The nerve of some people!!! I was so shocked!

I met a couple on holiday the other year - they were on their honeymoon. You could tell the woman totally wore the trousers and bossed her husband around...it was quite horrid to watch actually.

Anyway, she was telling me about her wedding day, and how one of the female guests and her had a falling out and she ended up taking this guest out of sight, grabbing her by her hair and pulling a chunk of it out. Nice lady!!! Not what I would want to be doing on my wedding day.

When i worked in hotels we had one wedding where the FOTB's GF was put on a table at the back of the room on the seating plan (FOTB was on the top table) anyway the GF kicked off big time telling my us to move all the tables around for her when we refused as it was the B&G wishes it just snowballed and the GF left and didnt return.

Ive also seen guests fall asleep at the dinner table where they have been so drunk.

Another venue I worked in we had a gypsy wedding (this was like 10+ years before the tv show so i was quite shocked at what some of the little girls were wearing). anway amongst many other issues that happened that evening after i went home the kids broke in and smashed up the vending machine (that was in the sports complex) nicking all the sweets, and instead of using the loos some people felt it was appropriate to take a dump and urinate at the bottom of the stair case (I kid you not). I knew it was going to be bad when i came on shift the next morning and saw the the cake splatted all up the way along the driveway.

Thankfully *touch wood* we've never had anything major occur during a wedding- The worst "general" thing would probably be parents who refuse to take responsibility for their childrens behaviour It seems to happen all the time....

Parents sitting oblivious whilst their darlings are running up and down the aisle screaming and making noise during the ceremony or touching/moving/breaking things out of boredom. Not always the kids fault, but I can't for the life of me understand why you'd sit and allow that to go on as a parent. I'd be mortified.

It's also not unusual for a guest to turn up in white, which I always believed wasn't the done thing...not sure how much of a big deal that actually is or if it would really bother people.

We often see children running about with their parents nowhere in sight. At one wedding a tiny toddler nearly fell down a full set of concrete stairs - I ran & grabbed her just in time, the parents were nowhere to be seen! So I found them and took her back, explained what had happened, and two minutes later she was off on her own again ☹️

Now this has got me worried. You see there was a big falling out in my family earlier this year & as a result my aunt is not going to be invited to the wedding. I am in two minds whether or not to invite my cousin (the aunt's son) because although he's technically not done anything wrong, I am scared he will either A. Turn up with her as his +1 or B. Tell her when & where it is so she can gatecrash or something. I wasnt really sure someone would do something that malicious at a wedding but now I'm worried!!!

I saw the same thing done with a boy (aged 4) whose Grandmother (pushy) thought he should have been a page boy. He looked silly as other kids werent as dressed up! Some people just go a bit OTT with weddings.

My Sister has bought my 10month old nephew a 5 piece suit for my wedding next week. Its a pale blue waistcoat and cravat. We are having royal blue so not entirely the same but I was a little put out.

Why does a 10month old need a 5 piece suit? He hasn't exactly been lining up the job interviews! Put the child in suitable child like clothing (no this doesn't include a full tracksuit and football shirt!!)

We shall see what happens next week but I feel expect my mother to try to upstage me ?

    Is he walking?

Madness, our son will be 18months and wearing a 5 piece suit. I said no jacket, but H2B insisted. I am expecting him to be in no shoes and just trousers and a shirt by the end of the meal (boy, not H2B)

My niece took her 2year old to H cousins wedding. She had him fitted for a suit at the same menswear as groom best man etc. She was told by her MIL this is want the bride wanted, all the children were going be dressed in these suits. The poor bride got such a shock when she had 8 boys in the suits, she was one angry bride because she had said no such thing. MIL just thought it would look nice on thr photos. What a cheek

My hairdresser told me something that happened at her friends wedding last year which made my jaw drop! Her friend got married at a country hotel and paid for exclusive use of the garden, as the doors in her wedding breakfast room opened out onto the lawn. There was another wedding at the hotel on the same day and to cut a long story short, all of the guests from the other wedding piled into the garden and ate all of their afternoon tea!!

The B&G were really upset and naturally complained to the management. The other bridal party refused to leave the garden (!!) and the managers ended up putting a waist high bamboo divide across the garden and told each party to stay on one side of it. This meant that there was no privacy what-so-ever with a really bad atmosphere lingering. The replacement food was served hours later when everyone was absolutely starving! IMO the event managers did a totally sh*t job for allowing this to happen. I would have gone absolutely flippin MENTAL at the managers if this had happened to me! (oh god, I hope it doesn't!!).

My FSIL invited her cousin and his wife and specifically said no children on the day they arrived at the venue (120 miles from home) with the child and said 'well you cant send us home' They were so shocked, they had never said they had a problem with the child free policy.

At the same wedding the grooms brother was also caught sealing some of the cards ? assuming he thought there would be money in them?

My own wedding- Some guests who were second cousins ( whom my mum had taken the liberty of inviting, without telling me) messaged me on Facebook and asked if everyone was wearing red and lack ( my colour scheme) or if it was just family...I had never mentioned this, or even wanted all my guests to wear the same colours. To this day I still don't know who told my guests this. ALL my guests ended up wearing my colour scheme!I was a little miffed.

There are some far worse stories though here; definitely cringe worthy!

oh my god, what a nightmare! our venue does weddings in the castle itself and in the italian gardens, and I'm not sure if my 'exclusive use' means we're the only wedding, or if maybe there could be one in the gardens as well. Our drinks reception and canapes will (weather permitting) be outside on the croquet lawn, and if there's another wedding on the property, I sure as hell don't want them anywhere near us!

As for stories from the past; at my eldest brother's wedding in 2008 our mother's boyfriend's daughter, age 38 at the time, threw a hissy fit for not being sat at the head table with the other 'siblings' even though she isn't our sibling, and by other brother, my sister, and I were all in the wedding party!! So, our pseudo-step-sister caused a massive scene and stormed out during the meal. For that same wedding, my sister had to bring her mother-in-law up to Toronto to stay in the hotel with everyone because she was visiting from Iran and is elderly, and couldn't be left in Connecticut without my sister and her husband. To make things worse, my brother didn't tell his bride to be, and had originally said sister's MIL could come to the wedding, and when she found out, she flipped out and told them they couldn't come, even though my sister was a groomswoman. In the end, the MIL just stayed in the hotel and it was fine, though. Oh, and for THE SAME wedding, my dad emailed all of my siblings and I 2 weeks before the wedding asking us to buy him flights to go, even me, the youngest, living in Japan at the time and barely able to afford the flight to Canada myself!

Then at my other brother's wedding in 2010 our Aunt and Uncle and 4 cousins showed up early and instead of staying in the bar area, they pushed their way into the ceremony room where we were in the middle of the rehearsal before the ceremony, and even though they were asked to leave several times, they kept coming back in. They basically saw the ceremony twice, and the bride was LIVID. Also, my mom and almost-step-dad Bob (they've been together 15 years, though not married) thought it would be hilarious to invite along Bob's eldest daughter (not the hissy fit daughter at the previous wedding), because she and my brother had never met, despite being family(ish) for over a decade. So on the day of his wedding, this woman comes to his room, and says, "thanks for inviting me to your wedding!" and he's all, "I'm sorry, who are you?"

Stuff like this happens at all weddings, though it's rarely horrible unless the couple makes a big deal about it. If they were to just shrug it off they'd be so much happier!
