WTH is a hoop for?

BatsGirl, 6 April, 2012 at 14:31 Posted on Planning 0 8

I bought my dress online and so I haven't had a chance to ask anyone about the little extra bits (you know, like veil, tiara etc) So I understand what a hoop is but what I don't get is why...? Is it just for bulk or are there other benefits? I'm wondering if it would likft away the reams of material from my lags on my A-line dress and make walking easier? What about sitting down/ playing on a spacehopper ;-) - easier or harder with a hoop?

Ta in advance!

I'm hiring a hoop with my dress. It isn't meant to change the shape of the dress but to keep the material off your legs so it is easier to walk in. My dress is quite princessy so it would make it a lot easier. If you get a chance try one on with your dress so you can see if you prefer it with or without a hoop.

I have just ordered a cheap one for my A line dress. I want my dress to be held out, but not to much due to the amount of detail on the bottom, also hoping I won't kick the dress wearing one when I walk. I'm planning on taking it off after photos and before the sit down meal. I'm also thinking the trips to the little girls room will be interesting wearing a hoop ?

I didn't buy mine from a shop so have the same problem as you, I have ordered a 3 hoop but they are all adjustable and removable so planning on getting the CBM over for a play around once it arrives.

They give your dress a better shape. My dress was A line and looked much better with a hoop. I had a double hoop.

Hoops give your dress a much better shape, providing you get the right one. I tried on five before we found the one that gave my dress the best shape. They do make it easier to walk in too.

I'm going to hijack and ask a question....do the hoops come in like a petticoat thing? or do yoy attach them to your dress, and how??

Do they go at the bottom of the dress? the top? where????

I've tried on a few hoops. Usually they just go on before your dress.

I bought a hoop on here for my dress (just a single one) and when I tried it with my dress, the lady said it gave the wrong shape. After no hoop/small petticoat/big petticoat we finally decided to hire the big petticoat as it gave the best shape.

Didn't realise it would be so complicated!

Yeah it's like a petticoat, just goes under your dress. Mine was more like an underskirt with lots of layers to give my dress shape. My dress was a-line and it definitely made it look better. I got mine from my dress shop.
