WW Points - hunger

giddykipper, 8 April, 2008 at 11:54 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 25

How do you not get hungry whilst following WW Points ....... I'd be allowed 21 points a day but looking at the values of things .... I'm going to be struggling to stick within that without being hungry.

And what about saving points for a drinkie at weekend? I'm sure I'd be starving if I saved points up during the week.

(my friend has 'lent' me her online account so I can get my head round things before I join).

Thanks

I have swapped for sugary drinks to no sugar ones. With Vodka red bull, I make sure that it is Smirnoff and mix sugar and sugar free together.

I am on 20 points per day and I have no problems with saving points for the weekend.

Remember you can get extra points for exercise as well.

I have never felt hungry really on it apart from now when it 12 and I need my lunch ?

It's really a case of making good choices.

For instance, I usually have alpen or sultana bran for breakfast, it keeps me going for longer without needing food.

Today I had a piece of toast and I was starving by 11am. You need to choose foods that keep hunger at bay.

I don't really find it too much of a problem to have a drink or 2, I can usually save a couple of points a day.

Doing exercise will give you extra points, although having said that I don't generally eat the extra points I've gained from exercise.

If I'm hungry and don't want to use any points then I have point free stuff such as cucumbers, tinned toms, carrots. I'm on 20 points a day and don't feel hungry. I make sure I have around 5 points for each of my main meals and then I have 5 points for snacks. I don't tend to save points for stuff now as I have lost the bulk of the weight I want to lose but it is possible to save points (I did at the begining of my weight loss journey). You have to the right choices for your meals. I have a few WW cook books which are full of low point meal ideas which are tasty and filling. I tend to bulk my meals with free veg/salad as well.

Once you have got into it is so much easier and you learn how to make the right choices.

You've seen the trick to WW before you've even joined!

The art is choosing low pointed foods that fill you up so you don't get hungry and saving points where possible to allow you to have treats like alcohol or whatever. If you eat like you did before then you won't stay within your 20 points and you won't lose weight which is why I'm guessing you're looking into doing WW in the first place. ?

Get your head round that and WW works!

Precisely why I do Slimming World instead of Weight Watchers. I tried WW and was constantly hungry. Now I'm doing SW, eating more than I used to eat before, am never hungry and have lost over 4 stone, 2 stone of that since January 8th.

A friend who has done WW for 10 years has just switched to SW, citing me as the reason! She ate more than she normally eats and lost more in her first week than she has done in the last three months on WW.

Just to keep the balance of the argument - I'm sorry WW didn't work for you Melancholie and I'm delighted you found a plan that did. However SW didn't work for me!! ?

Each to their own - or this will turn into a WW bashing and I won't stand for that. [:I]

    WSS

They're both good diets but it really does depend on what sort of an eater you are to begin with. I didn't get on with SW at all.

Me 4. SW lets me eat far more than is good for me - hence I didn't lose anything. Points is incredibly flexible and it's dead easy to save points for the weekends by making sensible food choices in the week. I'm on 19 points and can save 3-4 per day without being hungry.

Hardly. One post in the whole thread counts as a WW bashing now does it? Crikey! I actually made my post for balance! OP needs to know there's more than one plan out there and you just need to find the one that's right for you. From what she said, it sounds like she might get on better with SW than WW. Don't see why there's a problem with me pointing that out.

There is also Scottish Slimmers (I think that it might be called Weight Management in England but not sure)

My mum is on that and has lost 2 stones on it. She has been on WW and SW before and none of them worked for her.

Just have a read through the websites and see which one you fancy

GK I thought you were a SW girl?

I don't think there's anything wrong with WLers giving their personal experience. Mine of WW is that I was starving. I'm not biased - I truly was too hungry to concentrate. I gave up exercise as I didn't have the energy to do it - I know you can earn more points but not enough to have enough food to live off IMHO ? I lasted a day and a half and felt faint. I think I was on 16-18 points and I found it impossible. I must admit to being in awe of those who can follow it, and of those who find they're not hungry - I wonder how on earth they managed to gain weight in the first place!

Don't be so touchy! You didn't actually mention that you were trying to address any balance - you just launched in with precisely why you did SW because you were permanently hungry on WW. I think I've been on this Forum long enough to have seen enough WW vs SW conversations and I was just ensuring that didn't happen.

id="quote">The question was specifically about WW points though, no? And how to stick to points without getting hungry? Suggesting joining SW instead isn't really answering the question is it?

In all fairness Melancholie, what CBH actually said was that this thread *could* turn into WW bashing, not that you had WW bashed.

I've tried every diet under the sun, but I've worked out that I have to be able to eat what I want, I hate being dictated to - so SW and the WW core plan didn't really work for me (or, rather they did, but I couldn't stick to them for long because they're too restrictive).

WW points does limit quantities but it makes you 'spend' your points on foods which are lower pts value. I'm on 18pts a day and still manage to save pts for the weekend. Exercise helps too - and that's one of the things I really like about WW, it encourages you to get moving - earning the bonus points is all the encouragement I need ?

I think it's certainly a case of finding what works for you personally. If you've got access to an online account why not give WW pts a go for a week and see how it goes?

Wow, thanks for all your replies ladies.

Doughnut - I am a SW girl but recently haven't been sticking with it (or anything) and I wasn't sure if maybe a change of plan would give me a bit of a kick up the backside ..... plus my friend has lost 18lbs on ww pretty quickly and my cousin lost 6lb in her first week ......!

I'm just kind of in no mans land a the mo and wibbling!! lol

I've just tried low carb for a week and lost 2lb ........ 2lb - on what is supposed to be one of the fastest weight loss plans out there ....... I can wee 2lbs!!!!

Mrs W2B - I'm really confused by your food diary - are those figures at the end of each line supposed to be WW points? If so, how can a baked potato be one point?! ?

Yeah, it's supposed to be points.

I thought a baked potato was one point. How many do you make it?

    Panicing now ?

A baked potato - the size of your fist - is 2.5pts! It's not a lot more admittedly, but it might make a difference to your daily total. ?

I have just checked my shopping guide and it definitely says 'New Covent Garden Soup - Italian Tomato and Sweet Basil Soup 1/2 carton, 300g 2 points. Some of the others are a lot higher but I picked this as it is low!
