WWYD - Flight options to Bangkok

penguin1977, 8 July, 2009 at 22:13 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

Right - I need some advice. I live in Edinburgh If you were me which option would you choose -

a) Fly to Bangkok from Edinburgh via Amsterdam with KLM and China Airlines and have 6 hours to wait in Amsterdam on the return journey but land back in Edinburgh (£1100 for 2 approx)

b) Fly to Bangkok from Manchester via Doha with Qatar and have to drive to Manchester for a 0600 flight, have only a couple of hours stopover andhave to drive 4 hours to get back to Edinburgh on return journey (£950 for 2)

Qatar = better airline (I think) but long drive home with jet lag

China = don't know so much about airline so bigger gamble but only 20 minutes from the airport.

Think my brain is bleeding........does anyone have any advice?

I Flew with KLM / China Airlines through Amsterdam to Bangkok, it was many year ago (about 10!). I don't remember them being a naff airline. Just normal nothing special.

When we came back I do remember the flight from Bangkok being delayed and missing my KLM connection.

I would always choose to fly to and from my nearest airport. If you go from Manchester you have to consider parking / hotel (or leaving home at a horrible time of the day.) and there really is nothing worse than having to get in the car for a long drive home after getting off a plane!

I would go from edinburgh. It's a long flight back and I couldn't be bothered with journey back up. We went from Glasgow via Dubai with Emirates, is that an option?

Ang77 - that was going to be my suggestion too. Fly Emirates from Glasgow via Dubai and then non-stop onto Bangkok. I really like Emirates. Prices are around 600 pounds per person.

An alternative if you were prepared to travel to Manchester would be Etihad via Abu Dhabi to Bangkok.

I would avoid Qatar like the plague!

Hi All - thanks for your suggestions. We've booked this morning and would have loved to flown Emirates but the flights were coming in at about £750 ☹️

Anyway we've got £550 out of Edinburgh with KLM via Amsterdam, The stopovers are pretty good too and we're on our doorstep when we land. Job done. I have feeling it might still be China Airlines out of Amsterdam but we booked it via the KLM website and it was listed as KLM. Worth the gamble.
