WWYD - Holiday potential issue

Puddled, 11 September, 2008 at 09:36 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

We are taking the kids away soon and always read about hotels on Trip Advisor. I know there is always someone who will moan no matter what so dont take notice of everything we read but the hotel we are going to is getting slated in the majority of the reviews lately - mainly for hygiene issues. We have called the travel company who insist that they know of no issues.

Will you please have a read of a few of these and tell me what you would do if you were due to go here

Thanks x

Ignore them. Tripadvisor reviews seem to have no middle ground. D&V bugs can be picked up in all sorts of places, not just the hotel. A fair few plonkers do stupid things like drink the tap water.

? @ the full of chavs review. It's Majorca on a package tour in the height of the school holidays...wtf did they expect? ?

"The place is swarming with tattooed, beer swilling loud mouthed northeners who let their kids do exactly what they like. " ?

I've stayed there, a long time ago before it went AI but H's auntie has stayed there more recently. I'm not sure what to suggest other than to go and see for yourself. You'll no doubt lose your money if you don't go. You could always post on www.holidaytruths.co.uk I find it quite useful

I dont care about the chav comments etc - its a huge hotel complex - theres bound to be loads that go just to drink free alcohol all day. Its just the health issues. We have been told if we cancel we lose all the money so that would mean the kids dont get a holiday that they are looking forward to.

I feel like we are in a no win situation. I want to think like you said BGB but I worry about everything!

Personally I'd ignore the reviews. If people are unable to punctuate their sentences properly then I have no interest in their opinions. It's a rule that generally works for me.

As the others have said. I wouldn't cancel and lose my money. Just stock up on immodium, dioralyte, paracetamol etc (which I do for every holiday) and go and enjoy yourselves. I take all reviews with a pinch of salt.

The reviews on holidays uncovered seem to be more positive than the trip advisor ones.

Definitely go. I was a bit sceptical about our holiday this year after reading some dodgy reviews but it was one of my best holidays ever.

Just go. I doubt the kids will care that they're holidaying with 'chavs'. Take it in turns to stick your headphones on, stick your head in a book and enjoy some sunshine.

Ignore the reviews! My bil always looks at the reviews and would not go to the hotel even if one of the reviews were a little bad!

    Go and have fun!!

I'm like you, I always panic if I read something dreadful about the hotel we're going to... and then I search and search for corresponding reviews and they seem to conflict, so you can never really get a good picture.

The tour operator will usually only allow you to switch or cancel if something REALLY REALLY bad is proven - so it looks like you're going to have to go - but hopefully you will find it's fantastic and be able to post a really positive review on that site afterwards.

Regarding the impetigo mentioned in one of the reviews - we went to Holiday Village Viva in Majorca with First Choice last year and my son came back with impetigo... In my opinion the hotel was fantastic and pools/pool areas appeared spotless, so I don't think it's necessarily an indication that the hotel is scummy - I think that anywhere with random kids/water/dirt is open to problems, however hard you try to keep it clean.
