WWYD, think I've booked the wrong hairdresser

Vintage84, 3 October, 2012 at 12:51 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hi Ladies,

So I panicked...I struggled to find a wedding hairdresser local to my venue who would travel to the venue on the day, so I ended up booking someone about 20 miles away who is happy to travel. Now I'm worried I've made an expensive mistake because she's charging £50 for the trial (and I have to travel to her for it, an hours drive from my house) £50 on the day, £30 each for a simple blow dry for my mum & godmother, and £30 to £40 each for my two bridesmaids....plus petrol.

I've paid the deposit, which was the price of the trial up front. I have no problems with her ability, I'm sure she's fantastic, but I am a little worried I'm paying over the odds and should've looked a bit longer for someone more local.

Would you look for someone else and possibly cancel the first lady even though it means losing your deposit? Or do I just suck it up, go for my hair trial and stop being a daft wotsit!

I think this is a classic case of losing my sense of reason due to being a daft B2B!!

It depends where in the country you are based but it doesn´t sound massively over the odds to me. I paid a similar amount for my hairdresser (but got married in Italy so the comparison probably doesn´t help!)

Bear in mind that if a hairdresser is doing a full wedding party at the venue they probably won´t be able to work for the rest of the day, so the prices will always be more than what you would pay just going into a salon for a blowdry etc.

So you have paid the deposit but not yet had the trail??

If I have read it right and this is the case I would just give her a call. Explain that you've recaulculated your budget and you would like to cancel. £30 sounds alot for a blow dry, I assume she is charging a little more to factor in travel costs. When is your trial booked in for? If it's within the next couple of weeks I wouldn't expect to get any money back as she may have missed the opportunity for other bookings. However if she has time to book someone else in your slot she may be nice about it and give you a refund.

Alternitively couldn't you get one of the BM's to blowdry mum and godmum saving you £60. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to just let the hairdresser know you don't need her to do as many people..

I don't think this sounds expensive to be honest.

I would be surprised if you found someone that would mean you were paying less once you factored in the lost deposit.

I paid £200 for hair and make up inc trials for me. I travelled about 100 miles for my trial as I was getting married away from where I live.

My mam did her own hair (she never likes it when it's blow dried by someone else) and two good friends did my BMs hair.
