WWYHD? quite long

Skittalie, 12 August, 2009 at 13:42 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 15

Next door to us is a rental, we are in a terrace so our houses are exact opposites layout wise, it's empty atm and plenty of people have been looking round with the agent and the landlord. One couple came on sunday with their parents (and without the agent, LL etc) to basically look through the windows and try the back door (which is through a gate and back yard).

They then came through OUR back gate (we were sat having lunch with my parents and grandparents in the dining room) and the father (I assume) stepped through our open back door (whilst knocking on it) and proceeded to ask if they could have a look round our place as it is the opposite so they could measure up a bit for furniture etc. To say I was slightly taken aback is putting it mildly, I practically had to push him out of the kitchen, the rest of them were peering in the dining room and kitchen windows and I said it was inconvenient, we were having lunch etc and opened the gate for them to leave. They kept asking questions about parking, the street etc and I was quite short with them that they should just ask the letting agent or LL, I am busy etc H had to come out and asked them to leave (not rude but firm and he's quite a big guy so they did get the message).

Nowt as strange as folk! They have now just come to the front door and asked if now was a convenient time for them to have a look and measure up, the LL is on holiday and they couldn't get hold of the letting agent so they thought that I wouldn't mind. I told them it wasn't convenient that I was working from home and busy, they didn't get the hint and kept pushing, they could come back later if I wanted! the father even tried to get a foot in the door. I ended up just saying no and closing the door in their faces.

Is this normal to want to look in your prospective neighbours home? fecking cheeky beggars

That is cheeky and rude! If they had just done it at the front door, not so bad but to waltz in your front garden and then through your back door. I am shocked that some people think it is OK to do that.

I hope you don't end up with them as neighbours.

Wow, I can't believe just how rude they've been and on more than one occasion. I would have done what you did, I wouldn't want someone looking around my house unannounced and perhaps mention it to the LA so they can tell the LL.

? Wow. I can't believe the brass neck on some people! I'd have been a lot ruder than you've been. Why on earth would they think it's acceptable to burst in on you like that and, having been told to push off once, come back again?!

I'm glad it's not just me, apparently they took "it's not convenient" to mean some other time would be convenient! blinkin weirdos

WSS, that is ludicrous for them to expect to come in and to be forceful like that is rude.

    Definitely contact the LA....

Tricky one as you may well end up being neighbours with them although it sounds as if it's the father who's the pushy one. Definitely ring the LA straight away and tell them what this pair are up to and say it's not acceptable and they should be measuring in the vacant house and not yours.

And it goes without saying but don't let them in. They sound like nutters to me!

That's beyond rude IMO, and I'd have been raging when they came back. I would have probably looked totally askance and said, no, it's not convienient and won't ever be and I *DO* mind, it's utterly intrusive and rude of you. And shut the door bloody hard with a final Paddington hard stare. I am totally gobsmacked that anyone would be that rude. I would def get onto the letting agents and be crossing everything that they wouldn't get the let!

Spoke to the agent, she couldn't apologise enough, she said the dad is very pushy, wants everything now type, it's the couples first place together and they are quite young so they are letting the father do all the talking. She said she would mention to them that peeing off your prospective new neighbours might not be the best idea, but she doubts it will have much effect, better than nothing I suppose

I just hope they don't turn up again

Wow, they sound like right PITA's! Poor you that these are going to be your prospective neighbours, however if it's mainly the dad that is being this bad then it might not be too bad for you.

Glad that you let the LA know what was going on, for all you know they could have been casing the joint or something.

How odd! I wouldn't even let people who turned up to look round ours in without going through the EA! Why would anyone let strangers into their house? They wouldn't!

OMFG That crazy! I'm actually laughing because its so ludicris!

MInd you FIL once got up on the roof of a house BIL had just had an offer rejected on, to see if it needed replacing, as a bargaining tool. some people are just unbelievable.

I may have contacted the police - on non emergency number - expressing concern that this was a new way of either forcing entry to steal or to 'case the joint'.
