Where abouts in Manchester/Trafford? I'm in Altrincham and can recommend The Travel Inn at the George and Dragon Hotel. The pubs just been done up so not sure what its like now, but when my partner used to come for the weekend from Scotland, we used to stay there all the time. Think its round about £48 per night. HTH.

Thank you - I'll have a look for it now. He's working in the Tate and Lyle building. I have a feeling that it might be too much money - he's only after cheap and cheerful - sorry I should have put that in the OP! Thank you though, I'll look it up now! x

If its cheap 'n cheerful you are looking for, you could try the Barrington Hotel in Altrincham. Its within a 30 second walk of the metrolink and its above The Barrington Pub. I don't think its very expensive. Saying that though, The Tate and Lyle Building rings a bell but I can't place it, so couldn't say whether or not its ideal to stay in Altrincham or not.

Hang on - do you mean the Trafford Park area? That's the only place I can think of with a Tate & Lyle building.

If so, that's an industrial estate area but your closest bets would be hotels around the Trafford Centre - there's definitely a premier inn there.

It's the only one I know of too. I agree with Alison that you're best bet is probably one of the 3 Premier Inn's at the Trafford Centre.
