XL have called in the administrators?

Smint, 11 September, 2008 at 23:42 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 66

Just been watching the BBC news where this was being discussed, but can't find anything on the BBC or Sky websites

Anyone know anything about it?

My friend is on holiday with them, but not sure whether it's going to affect flights/holidays

As of 2am we are no longer, time for my backup plan to kick in.

Lost such a great company and lots of good friends, can`t believe how many people were there at 3am!

Get back to Portsmouth and get working for McDs again so I have an income. Luckily not burnt any bridges and am friends with lots of people there still.

Housemate stuck in Orlando and due home sunday morning with Monarch. Not really hit me yet, trying to stay strong for all my friends, lots of tears there at work tonight. Probably plenty more to come.

Oh Glider, I'm so sorry to hear this especially as I remember how much this career meant to you. Hope you are OK ?

Try to remember that as one door shuts another one opens - you have no idea where you'll be or what you'll be doing this time next year, and it's quite likely that something good is around the corner. Going back to your old life might only be a stepping stone.

I've just woken up to find that I'm no longer going on holiday in a few weeks. I've tried to call all the helplines but they're are all understandably very busy.

Does anyone know what I need to do now? I booked through Kosmar so I'm Atol covered but I actually don't know if that means I'll get any of my money back or how soon I'll get it.

Can anyone help me please ☹️

Just been watching BBC news. As you booked through a tour operator you will get all of your money back, but can't tell you when.

I feel sorry for the people who have bought flights directly through XL.com. Apparently that's not ATOL protected and these people are stranded abroad and will have to pay their own costs of getting home.

Hope you get sorted soon ruthy.

Oh dear...I work for a travel agents and we heard the rumour yesterday.

I ran a report of all our XL passengers going up until Xmas. 965 to re protect Smiley sad

Ruthy Wuthy you will more than likely have to pay for new flights. Fill in a CAA claim form and receive your money back for your XL flights. Unfortunately if you are able to get new flights they are more than likely to be more. Information here....http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid=27

I bought one of their packaged holidays. If I find new flights, will I still have the accommodation I booked or is that gone too?

CAA emergency contact line - ****

Also any others flying with XL contact your travel agents...bear in mind that they will prioritise by date of travel so you might not get immediate answers.

Sorry, I just read you booked with Kosmar. Unfortunately you will have to rebook your whole holiday. It will take a few months to get your money back for your original holiday.

So sorry for you and all the other pax Smiley sad

I thought you might say that.

I booked through Kosmar - I've looked on the Atol website and Kosmar is protected. I'm filling out on of those claim forms but I don't know if there is anything else to do or if it's worth me speaking to someone or what...

I would give the emergency number a call. They will give you the best information. Hope you sort something out. PM if you need any advice/help.

I'm off to work now to deal with the aftermath.

Sorry to hear this and sorry to you as well Glider, as well as everyone else affected by this. Isn't there anyway you can stay where you are and move to another airline?

Oh gosh, this doesn't sound good. Glider, I am so sorry to hear about your job - what a horrible circumstance to be in. And RuthyWuthy, I hope you get a new holiday sorted or can salvage the other one in some way.

Crikey, last night when I posted they were still talking about XL continuing to trade, but with the Administrators being called in to sort out the finances - nothing about going out of business completely, more the potential to downsize the company

Some very unhappy people at Gatwick this morning - "If they had time to print the leaflets, they had time to tell us before we got to the airport"

Hope your Plan B works out, Glider - and that the people booked with them get alternative holidays

Looks like those already away will be able to return home OK

The advice I heard this morning was for those who booked through a travel agent, visit them on the high street if you can as the telephone lines will be really busy. For those who booked online, it's the telephone only I'm afraid, I hope you get through and get some answers.

Sorry to hear about your job Glider, you were the first person I thought of when I heard the news.

I hope those affected manage to get new holidays or flights.

I'm "supposed" to be going on honeymoon with them in three weeks.

We've booked with Travel City Direct and are supposed to be flying to Orlando for 3 weeks. Doesn't look like we'll be going now. We'd also booked tickets to discovery cove and disney with them.

I've booked my summer 09 holiday to turkey and we're "supposed" to be flying with XL airways, that's another holiday f'd up! Looks like i'm going to be on the phone a lot today.

Where can i find these claim forms on the CAA website, does anyone have a link?

How awful for everyone affected. Glider, I hope you can find another job. Ruthy, hope you get your money back and can find another holiday.

My ex and I were on the last Ansett flight out of Melbourne and the flight attendants were in tears at the end of the flight, it was just so sad. Luckily Qantas offered free return flights for all those affected. Hope someone steps up for those affected this time.

    Oh no!!!

I can't get through on the phone at all so I'm just going to print out the claim etc..

The Atol website appears to have now gone down. Which is really useful.

Good luck trying to get sorted xxxxxxxxxx

Where did you find the claim form so that you can print it out?

It's so annoying that the websites can't cope with all the people going on them.

In my family there are 12 of us going to florida next month with travel city direct so we're all trying to sort our claims out. I can't believe my honeymoon could be ruined.

Im meant to be going to Feurteventura with them in 3 weeks, I booked direct through the website with them as I had booked a villa out there so don't think I will get anything back.

Rung bank to see if I was protected because I paid on my debit card and Im not so have lost £350 on flights, probably the villa deposit unless the lady feels sorry for me and lets me have it back and other bits and bobs that I had bought. Am gutted, its my first holiday for years and our first holiday with our little boy.

I'm a travel agent. I wasn't in work yesterday, and have only just heard this on the radio this morning. My first thought was for you Glider. As one door closes, another one opens and all that.

I'm not looking forward to going into work at 11.45. It's been a bad week for travel with Zoom, Futura, Seguro and now XL Freedom Flights, Aspire and Kosmar all going into administration. Let's hope it ends here and nobody else goes down, although I don't think we've seen the end of it somehow.

CAA claims can take around 12 weeks. If anyone is affected, look out your travel agent's invoice, tour operator (i.e Kosmar, Freedom flights) invoice and bank statements showing your payments made to your agent, as when we've dealt with CAA claims before they've all had to be sent off for the claim.

I really feel for anyone caught up in this, and hope you get your money back quickly.

Well you should be able to get the claim form from ATOL's website but it has gone down so I don't really know where else to get it from. I didn't even have time to print it off.

All the info is here : /404/?404;https://www.caa.co.uk:443/XLLeisureGroup.html

I feel really bad for you - hope you get it sorted xxx
