(xposted) Old Marrieds - What did you buy your H?

tahdah, 2 September, 2009 at 15:55 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 26

I'm trying to think of a little gift I can get H2B to open on the morning of the wedding, I have already gone through the usual items like watch, cufflinks, hip flask. But they're not 'working' for me. Also I can't get him smellies as I did that first time around...plus he has tonnes of aftershaves etc.

I know that he'd really love a nice tool belt...but is it worng to buy him that for his wedding, I think it's more a birthday gift, (he'd also like a PS3 but my budget won't stretch to that).

I've got him a nice card which I'll scribble some words in...but I want to wrap something.

Its nearly 5 years ago now and I'm embarrassed to say I can't remember! I may have bought him cufflinks.

He bought me earrings. Not that that's any help to you ?

Thanks for your help ladies. I may just give him the card unless I'm inspired by something else.

Well I got MrSun a TAG watch but that's both out of budget and off your list so not much help. Tickets for something? Footie match, concert?

Am thinking i might put together a 'shoe box' and make a sort of kit to get him through the day eg, socks, a letter, aftershave, shoe polish,

    or i might not lol

depends if i have the time before the wedding or i might just decide its far too cheesy lol

It'll be a year on the 6th Sept for us!

I bought H a day trip to go to Old Trafford and see Manchester United play. It was something he's never done before and has wanted to go since he was a small boy! The only downside was I bought him 2 tickets and he took me!! I had hoped he'd ask his dad as he knows how much I loathe Man U, but no he wanted me to go!!

    HTH

    Luv Victoria

    xx

We didn't get each other anything. Our wedding rings were gifts to each other.

That's just what my mum said when I said I was struggling to think of something to get! She thinks it's silly to buy each other wedding presents but like you Tahdah, I really want to get him a little something to unwrap on the day. I have already bought a card and some aftershave - I bought him the same aftershave for our first Christmas together so brings back a few memories! I also thought about cufflinks because he wears a suit for work quite a bit. I really like the shoebox idea though Sazelbean!

I got him cufflinks because he needed them, a hipflask because we'd got them for the bestmen and he loved them, a pocket watch, a getting ready kit including all his mini toiletries and new socks and boxers with no holes in (I couldn't guarantee what he would end up wearing on the day otherwise!). I was also very twee and did the 101 reasons why I love you, which he liked more than all of the stuff I'd bought anyway ?

We got married abroad so I got him a silver cross necklace whilst there, mostly as something to bring back rather than a wedding gift but he wore it on our wedding day. He bought me earrings to match a necklace he had given me the week before on my birthday. Both matched my wedding ring.

    That's what we did!

To be honest we didn't even think about getting each other a present. He chose the cufflinks he wanted, and I wore a necklace and earings that he'd bought for Valentines Day and I decided to save it for our wedding day.

Was only on 13th June and seems ages ago now!

Mate, just read this thread! Why not get him the tool belt because H2B would appreciate it so much and buy some things to put in / attach to the tool belt. Like 'tools for marriage' or something ( a bit twee I know!).

I think that would be very you too.

Through a friend I got Paul Weller to sign a picture "To Stewart, Congratulations on your wedding day, Paul Weller" and framed it.

I was twee-er than a twee thing. I gave him a mini notebook and on every page was a reason why I loved him.

We weren't doing presents then i found out a couple of days before the wedding that H had got me a gift via my mum and so i didn't feel awful i went and got him a watch. we were both skint so it was just a nice looking but relatively cheap watch from argos.

I love those, but at £90 for a posh pair of pliers might be pushing my budget a bit...I was thinking more like £30!

    Thanks though.

I didn't get my H a present as such but I got him a wedding card and had it signed by all the players in his favourite football team. He loved it!

I knew that my H would have had a bit of a late one the night before our wedding as the best men are big drinkers, so I did him a 'wedding day survival kit' in a nice box. It had everything from headache pills to handcream and emergency cuffinks, tissues etc. Then right at the bottom I'd wrapped up his watch and he opened that last. I know the watch doesn't help but maybe the rest might! Z

I bought my H these cufflinks:

    http://www.1stchoicecufflinks.com/ecommerce/scripts/prodview2~idproduct~5025~sterling~silver~square~locket~cufflinks.htm

I put tiny photos of both of us in them & in one half, I put 'See you at 2pm'

    Bit cheesy!

He got me a bunch of flowers. But as we went on honeymoon 2 days later, they were never fully appreciated!!!

Bugger all! ? IMO I don't think you should get each other gifts for your wedding day, I just feel its more unnecessary expense.

However, get the toolbelt if you know that's what he'd like.
