Year of presents for mum

ATB, 10 October, 2013 at 13:08 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

The lovely Mummy ATB turns 60 in January. Does't want a party or any fuss, but I obviously need to do something! I've heard of people doing a 'year of presents' for their partner before, but do you think it would work doing a year of outings/gifts etc. for her. One a month? She's really difficult to buy for, grr! Anybody have any ideas?!

So far I've only got ideas for:

January - Her birthday so will get her gifts and go for dinner so that's sort of the first one.
June - Highland Show.
July - I've got tickets for Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
November - Chiristmas Shopping day out (we usually do this anyway - but I'll pay for a change!)

I previously thought she'd not be interested in a spa day, but she was saying that would be good as part of hen party, so perhaps she is open to it, so something like that is on the list for one month, as is some reflexology. I also need to find out the date of The Goodfood Show as I know she'd like to go to that when it's on.

Thanks in advance lovelies x

I had a year of presents (one a month) for my 50th from my H.

Included outings (theatre, river trios etc.), physical gifts like jewellery, prints, chocolates.

How about a cookery course, a photobook of her year (last pressy of course) a handbag (who doesn't love those?) something for the house or garden...

    Brilliant idea.

How about a trip for 2 to one of those nice cinemas where you get food and drink and sit on sofas?

    A walking tour of somewhere?

    Afternoon tea?

    Theatre?

    Cocktail making class?

Thanks, some super ideas there guys. She's a professional baker - so things like cupcake classes are out!! Cinema, Theatre etc. all great ideas - will look to see what's coming up.

Also things for house and garden are a good shout. She's been wanting her bedroom decorated for years and never got round to it so I could get her a voucher for B&Q and MF's services. We did her lounge as a surprise when she was on holiday (big risk but she loves it) and she admits she'd never have got round to it if I hand't taken things into my own hands!

I was thinking it would be easier if it was things to do rather than actual things - but how were yours presented AC, did you get one given each month by your OH rather than receive 12 gifts/envelopes on your birthday?

Ah this is a lovely idea. It's my mum's birthday next week but i've probably left it too late to do something like this. I might start planning things for her Christmas present though!

I got one present a month, usually on the first of the month (but sometimes they were late grrr...)

My H said it was because he couldn't afford a big pressy, but I liked the excitement something to look forward to.

I did like a combination of activities and physical presents though. Don't make your mum do something every month - sometimes, something to hold is very good!!

    What a great idea!

Agree theater or music performance or cinema is a good idea.

what about pottery painting or chocolate making or something similar!

A day out to a national trust house?

I've never heard of a year of presents before. I think that it's a great idea and I would love it if someone did this for me! My birthday is just after the new year so all my present fun is over and done with in a few days - I love the idea of stretching it out a bit longer!

This is such a good idea, I'm doing something very similar for my husband for Christmas.

How about a hamper basket of either treats or gardening bits and pieces she will enjoy using/eating etc?

Is she sentimental at all? Would she like a lovely picture of you both (or have some taken?)?
