Yo TOGs! Is it a thing to have an 'evening only' booking?

spenerella, 20 June, 2013 at 20:12 Posted on Planning 0 6

We're getting married in Santorini next year and there is a TOG included in our package. I know someone who has used him and have seen lots of pics so I'm not too nervous (alright, I'm pretty nervous!). But flying a TOG out of our choice is totally out of our budget.

Anyhow, we are having an evening 'do' back home a few weeks later and I was thinking that it would be nice (and one way to stem the nerves) if we had a TOG for a couple of hours then. Read a few threads and blogs lately stress how these photos are going to last a lifetime and it has actually scared the BeJayzus out of me haha!

Is this something anyone has had experience of?

What sort of price could I be looking at? I know this is subjective depending on tons of factors but any advice or suggestions will be greatly welcomed!

I am in the Leeds area if you have any local suggestions.

Cheers,

Spen

I just shot a wedding in Ibiza. Weirdly, the bride informed me two days ago that it was cheaper to fly someone over than go with some of the TOG's out there so that's what she did.The one I am shooting in Greece also had one included in the package but she wasn't keen so has done the same thing.

I am also shooting her evening do back here so to answer your question, yes there are Photographers who will do this for you.

Just like any coverage it could cost anything depending on who you go with. Perhaps ring around a bit and ask, can't see it being mega money. It has to include the editing time after also but will still be reasonable I'd imagine.

I've also done the same. I did a wedding in California last year and also did their evening reception back in London, as a lot of people couldn't make the wedding out in the states. I think this is definitely a great idea if you going to go with the photographer included in your package.

Flying out there really isn't too expensive as Daffodil Waves says, if it gets done early. Please don't be worried or nervous about the photographs! I agree, the photos will last a lifetime, but you've said you've seen some photographs from the photographer whose included in your package - what did you think?

I spoke to a destination wedding photographer a few weeks ago and he said some jobs he actually will cut down on price sometimes for the couple, as he wants to photograph the wedding (obviously it looks great in his portfolio, he loves travelling etc. He has been to some absolutely stunning locations as well, so to him, it's worth scrimping on the price a little bit) so that's always a thing to think about.

So you do not want to fly some one out but just have a do here.

The only issue is that most wedding photographers will be working at a wedding. Or if they book you for an eve that means they canot book a full wedding

I've photographed one evening reception for a friend's brother, so did it at mates rates since it was only a couple of hours. You could try a newly started photographer? May be flexible and cheaper? X

    Have a look at https://www.forthegoodtimesphotography.co.uk/

    and our photographer https://rollingsphotography.com/

The top one in particular is the cheapest photographer we've found and is pretty flexible! The only thing that put us off was the photo booth offered by Peter Rollings!

You can easily hire a tog for evening wedding reception, I'm ironically doing that tomorrow, it doesn't cost the earth, it's essentially an event photographer for a few hours.

On a side note: Crikey I could get away with charging more!

An event photographer sounds more like what I'm after. We don't have the budget to fly anyone out and I think the guy we've got in Greece is really good.

A good point about the loss of a full wedding shoot from the TOG's perspective. It would be in August and on a Saturday so I reckon most would hold out for a full day booking (I know I would).

I am going to look at some newbies and maybe check out some event TOGs in my area.

Thanks so much for all your advice guys!
