Hi. Just wondered if there were any other Yorkshire brides-to-be out there?

I'm lucky to live in the lovely city of York. As we are getting married on relatively small budget we are not actually getting married in any of the beautiful buildings / settings but hope to sneak some in to background of photos!!!

Be nice to hear where you are getting married & how the planning is going?

Hi MrsBtobe. Another 8th September. My OH is from Doncaster (Hatfield area). We lived in Donny for couple of years before moving back to York. If things had been different we could have ended up getting married there!!

Hope your plans are going well too x

I'm not surprised to hear you booked your venue last year, its very popular, I recall OH's cousin booked 3 years in advance to get a Saturday in the summer months.

Hey, it's in the visitor centre. The ceremony is held in an auditorium and the reception meal is in the restaurant upstairs with the wall of windows looking out over the park. Guests get to visit the sculptures too so adds a bit of interest. But it is a special place for me and OH.

What an amazing view your guests will have during the meal !...bet you'll get a really mixture of photos, the sculpture park has so many different areas to it.

Good Luck everyone with all your planning ?

Hi dabbott. We love the Hospitium too & did consider it. I went to a Vintage Fair there on Sunday & it is really lovely. You're right about St Mary's ruins - you'll get some great photos. We regularly pop in to the gardens to let the kids have a run around the ruins. Not sure they're meant to climb on them (not the big walls) but they have great fun!

Hope your planning is going well x

How cool to see everyone getting married in places I have heard of! Not bad considering I've only lived here 2 years or so!

I'm suprised the no one else has yet mentioned Wortley hall as when we went to book, all the weekend were booked up well over 2 years ahead!

I'm a York bride too. Marmadukes Hotel is our choice and it's a humanist ceremony. Gorgeous inside.

    Hi pinpin79.

I was wondering about spending our wedding night in Marmadukes or another hotel around there. We live fairly nearby but have offered our house to OHs family!! We're not having a honeymoon so be nice to stay in a nice hotel but don't fancy a really big one. Trouble is there are so many hotels in York!!

Is your wedding in August? Time is flying by isn't it? Have you got anything left to plan or are you all organised now?

I'm really enjoying hearing about all the weddings in & around Yorkshire x

I've still got a fair bit to organise and doing it all from Scotland which makes it even more difficult! Started to get a move on last night again and all the big things are done.

If you go for Marmadukes they have just refurbished a suite on the ground floor of the adjoining building, massive, big lovely bed, kitchen and living area. Worth a peek. Also the older suite has a sauna in it :-) We can't decide which will be ours and which my parents.

    When's your date?

Wow! Sounds like Marmadukes is a hidden gem! I like the idea of having a kitchen but reckon my OH would go for the sauna!

Our big day is on 8th September so not long after yours. As you can gather I've got a few things yet to organise!! It's unlikely I'll get a room in Marmadukes now but I'm going to have a look on their website in a mo. Got all the venues booked, transport etc but still quite a bit to do. We only decided (finally) to get married in January so it's been quite a busy time.

Sounds like you are doing a grand job, planning from Scotland. Thank goodness for the internet & technology.
