Your actual answer when he popped the question

fizzypop, 28 September, 2010 at 20:54 Posted on Planning 0 57

I saw this on another forum, and thought I'd ask you girls. In the movies, boy asks "will you marry me," and girl answers "yes!". In reality, my boy asked me and I said "really?" and then "Ok!" before promptly bursting into tears!

So ladies, what was your answer to the ultimate question? x

    Great post!

My reply was 'it that what I think it is?' !! But in my defence, he never actually asked me as he's quite shy and just sort of passed me the box and said he had a present for me!

I burst into tears and pulled my sunhat down over my face!!

It took him ages to get me to take the hat off, and when I did my first words were 'is that my ring?' *grins*

'You know i will' I had already started planning the wedding so would have been a bit strange for me then to say no.

Even with him on one knee, holding a diamond ring and saying "will you marry me?"

the first thing i said was "are u asking me to marry you?" then i just stated the obvious! "your asking me to marry you, you've got me a ring! you are on one knee!!"

i eventually said yes then he asked, "do you want to take the ring off me then?" and after about 10 mins i realised he was still on 1 knee and let him stand up!

My H2B proposed on my birthday. bent down to 'pick up' one of my sons toys, but stayed down on one knee and pulled out the ring instead. I cried out a yes and literally grabbed the ring

We went to the same spot that we'd had our first date, up in the peak district. We took a nice stroll up there and sat on a huge boulder looking at the scenery around us. He was asking all sorts of questions like 'you love me don't you, you want to spend the rest of your life with me right?' and 'you'd have my children wouldn't you?'

Anyway...after about an hour sitting there being romantic lovebirds we decided to go home. While I was packing up our things he got down on one knee. Didn't even say 'will you marry me' when he gave me the ring, so I made him ask again before I said 'YES'.

No crying, I always thought I'd cry, but I was more giddy than anything.

Well I was bad and knew he was going to ask as I'd looked at his creditcard bill then I kept that to myself for like weeks said to my sister. And she said he'll ask at lands end. As thats where we were going.

So I sat waiting for him to ask me and he started

...I'd like to ask you a question...

to which i replied ...yes the sky is blue...I don't know where this came from

he did then say will you marry me and which I replied Yes then blubbed for a while

I also knew it was coming (really wish I hadnt) and H2B just slipped the ring on my finger to which I said 'its the wrong hand'

Yeah its very us in that we are not the mussy type together but as an individual I am so always regret a little the way we went about it a bit which is a shame..

I love all these stories! Lovelygirl, what a great place to propose, I don't think I would have been able to speak from fear, though!

MrsBear2b, we got engaged in the Peak District too, well the Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath to be precise. Do you know it?

Keep them coming, ladies, this is making me feel very ?

Hi Fizzypop, so you're a Yorkshire lass then? I studied up in Sheffield for 3years and I'm back in Birmingham now so no more weekends in the peaks for me. I couldn't tell you where it was other than it was a short walk to the top (about 30mins) and there are about 4 huge boulders to sit on and people have carved dates and names into them. OH plans the walks and I just go where I'm told. I will ask him when I get the chance.

As we had only been together a very short time my first words were 'are you being serious?' lol. After establishing that he was it was a 'yes' followed by the longest kiss ever, and then began the discussion over whether it was too soon! Doesn't sound very romantic but it was in that moment...

    Great thread!

My first response was when OH got the ring out and said will you marry me was "HOW??!!" ?

I didn't mean 'how will i marry you' I meant 'how did you buy the ring?'. We had seen the ring and talked about marriage but being completely broke I didn't think he could afford the ring or a wedding - little did I know he had been saving up secretely for an engagement ring ?

    Love this thread!

H2B had taken me on a surprise trip to Paris for my 30th birthday. In the restaurant one evening he suddenly said 'so do you want to get married'

me - still not suspecting, assuming it was a general testing of the waters said 'well i would like to marry you'

    him -'lets get married then'

me - 'is that your proposal?'

Him - 'I can get down on one knee if you want me to'

me - 'no we're in a restaurant I'd be embarised.' few minutes later - 'Where is the ring?'

him - 'I didn't want to choose one in case you didn't like it so I thought we could do it together'

    me - 'ok'

About half an hour later I started squeeling '0MG we're engaged!!' took a while for it to sink in! sounds rather unromantic but we were in Paris which was such a fab surprise and I think he was quite nervous about the whole thing!

I knew he had the ring, so one sat working away in my salon a man came with a single red rose in a vase with a note saying cant wait 2 cu 2nyt, i was sooooo embarresed!! That night we were going 4 a meal in a japanese restraunt in town and i had booked a teppinyake table not realising we would be seated with about 10 other people!!! So we got there and once i realised the table situation and we were in the bar waiting 2 be seated i kept asking can i have it, can i have it, can i have it? and he kept telling me 2 shut up, after we were seated and i had went 2 pee about a million times with nerves he eventually pulled the ring out under the table and whispered will you marry me, i think i said ok then grabbed the ring and stared at it the rest of the meal, whilst H2B was telling me 2 stop it coz he hates attention and didnt want anyone 2 notice. I wish i hadnt known i was getting the ring but its done now!!

My OH proposed to me under the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. He took me away for the weekend, showed me the sights, paid for a private tour of the Zoo complete with a 'feed the animals' experience, took me to his favourite restauarnt and then for a walk round the parliament buildings which were all floodlit and spectacular.

Then we sat on a bench under the Brandenburg Gate and he started with a long well-rehearsed speech - I wish I could remember exactly what he said - which ended in something like 'would you do me the great honor of marring me?' I burst into tears and threw myself at him for a hug, he started to cry too and he had to remind me I needed to give him an answer. I said 'yes yes yes of course', cried some more, and then he produced a big sparkly diamond ring that looked fabulous in the floodlights. And then I ran up his phone bill calling my mum and son to give them the news.

Seems like tears are a standard response!

My genuine first response was - No!

He didn't have a ring, and he hadn't got down on one knee and he always knew that was what I was expecting! So we went and picked up the ring as he had desgined and ordered one - which I did then swap it for a simular, less "big" one as he had spent way too much from what we could justify at that time and as I had little hands it looked crazy.

Then he did get down on one knee and my answer was yes - obviously!

My genuine response was a stunned silence, for poor OH this must have felt an eternity as he started saying "I'd like an answer coz our limo has just pulled up to take us to the airport". Then it all caught up with me what was happening and I said "Yes, Of course yes!".

All the way in the limo I kept asking "Really?" as I had to keep double checking ?

    THIS IS BRILLIANT!

We were wandering along the ebach at sunset in Cuba and i was ranting about getting sand just stuck to my freshly moisturized legs (his idea re the walk, i wasnt haPPY LOL)

i stomp off ahead and turn round to see where he is.....hes down on one knee and says ;im really sorry about the sand, will you marry me?'.there was no answer, just lots of flapping like a chicken (apparently lol) and squeeling, and tears....he put the rung on and we go to meet the rest of my family (brothers and sisters) for dinner....we sit down and show everyone the ring and he goes: technically youve not even said yes yet!!

    haha Smiley smile

We were on holiday in Tenerife and I was looking around the jewellery shops when he said something along the lines of "shall we get engaged?" I asked him if he was being serious and he said 'yes. If you want to, choose a ring'. My reaction was stunned silence!

I chose a ring and we picked it up the next day. But I made him propose properly on our hotel balcony when we got back, otherwise he would have just handed me the ring box. My h2b isn't the romantic type, bless him.

I always thought I'd blub but I didnt! I knew it was coming as I'd been waiting for sooooo long, plus I was full of cold and tbh just wanted to go to bed!

I hugged him straight away for a while and then said 'yes' into his ear. Not the most emotional proposal and I really wish I'd not been ill.

    Love this thread!

It was Christmas morning 2007, 8am to be exact! We had already opened our presents from each other and my son was playing with his on the floor. H2b sneaked upstairs and came down shaking and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. My response was 'oh my god' several times over!

My fella took me to Cyprus for my birthday. All the way there he was really aggitated and couldnt sit still but as it was the first time we had flown together I thought maybe he didnt like flying or was desperate for a cig or something!

When we got to the apartment as I was unpacking in the bedroom he came in and said he wanted to show me something, then covered my eyes and led me into the lounge area...where the ring was in its box open...just staring at me! I remember bursting into tears and I just buried my head in his shoulder lol

Then he got down on one knee and asked me properly! I virtually screamed "YES" !

The aggitation on the flight was because the ring was in his suitcase! He was going to wait for my birthday to ask me but couldnt lol

It was all very emotional because it was our first holiday together and the first time I had been away without my kids! I phoned home to tell my boys and they knew he was going to ask me! He had taken my kids and dog out for a walk over the hills the week before and asked their permission as well as asking my dads! Couldnt believe they had kept it quiet lol

And the nicest thing about my ring is that it has the same name as my daughter and has little "c" s connecting the claws! (the 1st letter of her name)

    xx
