Your cake.. What are you having and how much?

mummymrs2b, 21 April, 2012 at 17:09 Posted on Planning 0 45

I've been to see the cake lady today and just wondering what cakes your all having (or had) and how much your spending? I'm a bit confused what to go for now after visiting the shop, there's so many different styles, colours, etc. I was going for a 3/4 tier patterned cake with flowers cascading. X

This is mine - but 3 tiers (fruit, choc and vanilla) and a fresh flower topper.

approx £300 for cake - florist charging about £15 to do topper in style of my other flowers.

We're having 4 tiers to feed about 100 (using it as dessert for our evening buffet) with bottom tier chocolate, third madeira, second lemon and top fruit cake for the traditionalists. It's going to be plain white iced, ribbon in co-ordinating colour on each tier and flowers that match the bouquets on each tier and the top.

We're having cupcakes and a top tier. Hopefully something like this except with silver cases and ribbon:

I've not got a price for ours yet but we have decided to avoid anymore flowers since I'm not really into them in a big way and all the tables will have floral centrepieces as it is included with my venue package. We decided we'd like something fun and this is what gave us the inspiration for it ...
    .

Ours will have a purple 1970's ford mustang convertible on it though as my OH has one (not purple) and its his pride and joy. Think we'll just be having a cutting cake on top with mini cakes, something similar to this, but no flowers -

Sorry about the large pics if the flashes have worked (it'll be a first !)

I don't have a flash but I'm having a three tier round cake, the middle layer will be hand painted and the other two a very simple pattern in ivory with a cluster of sugar roses on top and a couple of falling petals. We haven't finalised out flavour yet and she has LOADS but I think bottom layer will be vanilla sponge with buttercream and jam, middle layer lemon with lemon curd and buttercream and the top one we will go for something unusual like creamed coconut with lime buttercream or pink champagne sponge with pink champagne buttercream - I am having huge troubles trying to imagine what this will taste like though and I can't go for a tasting! I'm paying £465 and it will feed about 100, slightly extravagant but I was struggling to find The One with cakes and this lady ticked all the boxes!

I am having cupcakes and a separate single tier cake which my sister is making.

The confectioner will be making three different flavours of cakes with two colours of buttercream icing and will use specially decorated ones for the display along with the single tier cake and will coordinate everything.

We are having cupcakes for dessert . The big cake will be cut for the evening and then the display ones can be used to feed the evening people along with mini cupcakes (literally the mini ones are like two bites and they are gone!!) This way it is cheaper because the dessert cakes will use plain paper cake cases as opposed to coloured foil for the display and wont be as decorated as much as the display ones. All told the cupcakes will cost around £200 but as this includes a dessert we thought it was better value and far nicer than cheesecake!

The samples we tried were yummy - but we decided to scrap the chocolate ones because they didnt fit in with the colour scheme. But I dont particularly like chocolate so that's no hardship to me!

It's Grant's Bakery, Stratford. The bakery doesn't seem to exist as itself, Grants is a v posh restaurant, but if you google wedding cakes stratford on avon there is a result called Love My Cakes or sthg like that. Website indicated it would cost £220 but when we enquired it was cheaper.

Off out now, but message me if you want me to hunt out details.

For wedding having something similar to above but with deep purple and gold ribbon. Also some deep purple sugar flowers on top. 3 tier, lemon sponge.

We are then also having a post wedding celebration party for friends and colleagues 2 weeks later (as the venue is too small so wedding is just for extended family). The second cake will look something like this but without the flowers. Again 3 tier, lemon sponge, deep red ribbon.

I have found a local lady who will do both cakes for £100-150. She's not a professional cake baker but does bake for friends. I happened to bump into her when I went to look round my venue and she was setting up the cake for a friend's wedding. She is now in the process of starting up a business off the back of my order!!

Aww that sounds lovely mummymrs2b! we are having a giant cupcake in ivory with rose swirls and pink butterflies casading and about 140 mini ones for each guest alternating in pink with ivory butterfly and ivory with pink butterfly and edible shimmer may sound tacky to some but im excited! there are lots of kids at our wedding so saves them waiting for a cake to be cut! haha. Its all made in vanilla sponge with buttercream frosting, comes to around £160 for it all x

I've got like an olive green colour for the wedding so I'm putting that colour ribbon on the cake, thats the only difference to the picture though.

I'm having an assorted cake of 2 tiers of flavoured sponges and chocolate for the top, i'm also having a small fruit cutting cake as well. £199 for it too!

We are having friends (who are cakemakers) make ours. Not sure what their quote will be yet as I'm not 100% on my choice yet.

It will be a main cake with 3 colour layered sponge in Red, Blue and Yellow. Iced in black with a silver and gold arrowhead on top. Then a tier of cupcakes to match, not sure about the colours though. Probably red cases on top, then blue, then yellow. Not sure what colour cupcakes or design.

Mine is based on this design but not having the flowers on the top and the other floral decoration will be to match our other flowers and placed differently.Having the glass cubes to separate/support the layers though.

The tiers will be a Chocolate Truffle bottom and top and a decorated 'dummy' middle tier as my grandma is making us a fruit middle tier that will be iced by our cake lady and kept in the kitchen for serving.

Haven't decided on size yet will either be 5",8",11" or 6",9",12"

And this is costing us £250 plus £40 delivery and set-up.

This is similar to what we're having. Our wedding is spread over two days so we're saving the top tier for day two ?

This is similar to what im having, my brother and sister in law are buying it as our wedding present, i really dont like cake ? so h2b chose the fillings were having fruit, victoria sponge and chocolate, ive also got a personalised cake topper ( h2b is wearing his teams football shirt under his suit) but i dont know wether that will spoil it, so for the evening buffet if the hotel are fine with it i want a cake of cheese from marksies and may put the topper on there instead

My brother is a chef so will be making all of our dessert table (which will mostly be macaroons, brownies, and maybe some other bits and bobs) and our cupcake tower, as well as a small cutting cake which I'm going to decorate with candy melt buttons.
