It will be on a budget and Im looking at making alot of things myself and its be abit of DIy wedding.

Can you tell me what things you have made yourself and what you have bought ready made?

Just looking for inspiration about what I can be more creative with and what I should not even attempt...

I'm so uncreative it's unreal! But I plan to have a go. I plan to create the table centrepieces myself and maybe the invites (depending how they look!)

I love everyone's hand made stuff, you are all so clever! x

Ravelry is good, but the pattern I found is in a book called "Vintage Knitwear for Modern Knitters", it's a vintage book. It's a bolero with long sleeves, but I will make it with short sleeves. The wedding is in September and should still be a bit warm, but I just wanted to incorporate my hobby in some way. It will be made using 100% orkney angora.

I couldn't find a piccie on the net, but this is what I think it will look like (only in cream/off white colour):

found a similar pattern for sale on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390048037251&ih=026&category=150135&ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1#ht_2026wt_905

I made the invitations, all the info that went with the invitations, the Order of Services, the place names, the favours, the centre pieces and table names. Made the table plan.

Made the bridesmaids hair combs also.

Cheesy I know but the only thing I'm doing is making sure my guests have a good time. I'm not in the least bit arty/crafty and will even have problems putting cd labels on straight. Very envious of all of you who have made lovely, lovely things.

    Hello,

I'm making as much as I can. My family and friends are helping out too. My gran is making my cake and my mum and i are decorating it. My best friend (CBM) is making my bouquet. I have my family collecting jam jars as my mum is making decorations for them and we're putting candles in them for decorating outside. I'm making my own favours (either chocolate or soap) and invites etc. I'm also getting my little nieces (FG) to make some decorations for the venue also. I will be making my own centre pieces too. Basically whatever I can make I will be making. It's so much fun!!

    I am diy-ing the following:

    • Invitations - bought pocketfold blanks from PDA Card & Craft, adding my own backing card and printing off my own inserts.Tricky cutting out things perfectly but a guillotine helps.
    • Place cards - really easy, bought blank ones off ebay, adding a layer of backing card and printing off names in a fancy font.
    • Table names - bought ready made numbers but decided they were boring, now sticking my own card & printed names over top.
    • Post box - bought a blank one off ebay to decorate myself
    • Guestbook - plan to buy a blank one and decorate
    • Table plan - not bought anything yet but looks easy enough

    Hope that helps x

Hi! I'm making as much as I can too, mostly so I can make it more personal. I'm making/made: the save the date cards, invitations, Rsvps, maps of venue location, favours-fabric hearts filled with dried lavender, fabric bird decorations, fabric love letters, my veil, my hair accessory, all the flowers - bouquets, buttonholes, centre pieces and various other floral decorations- thinking of making a flower covered heart and maybe a wire and bead heart too. Oh and I'm thinking of making table runners in liberty print style fabric too. Sorry for the one big paragraph - my phone doesn't let me format posts - no new lines etc!

Wow Lucy, you are making a lot of similar things to myself! Make sure you flash.

I have already started making my fabric hearts, got some lovely fabric scraps on ebay. Enough for 60 hearts (ladies favours) for £8!

    I'm making:

All the stationary stuff - STD's, Invitations, RSVP cards, OOS, Nametags/place cards, table menus

Photo guest book using our engagement pics

Blackboards for menu, drinks menu, table plan, also signs for directing guests to parking etc

Table centrepieces - squares of gingham fabric with a vase of gladioli's in the centre and a few jam jar candles

Favours - small pots of jam (and possibly chutney for the men)

Fabric stuff - ring pillow, garter, bunting

Post box - this is a vintage suitcase that I will make a sign saying 'Cards' for

Baskets - for the loos, filled with useful bits, and probably one with flip flops for sore feet in the evening!

Gosh that seems like a lot written down! I'm sure there's more too, but I can't think right now!

Luckily I am quite a crafty girl! I am a cake maker so will be doing our cake. I am also making the favours (jars of chutney & jam – can be made well in advance = less stress!!) and as much of the venue decoration as possible – bunting, table centres, menus etc, also buying the flowers wholesale to do jam jars and jugs of flowers on the tables and hand-tied bouquets.

My OH is a cartoonist so he is doing the designs for all the stationary and I am doing the words – so all in all we are saving a load of money and giving the wedding a really nice personal touch!

You will be amazed at what you can do yourself, whether you think you are ‘crafty’ or not! The most important piece of advice I would give though is plan what you are going to do well in advance and don’t leave anything to the last minute – if you give yourself two weeks before the wedding to make all your wedding favours and cake and decorations you will be in meltdown!

I am making nothing for my wedding..I am not that way inclined whatsoever. I have been scurring the internet for bargains for fiddly things.

I am even paying an additional £30.00 for the shop I bought my stationary out of to put them together. I just want things done right by the people who know best!

If I was having favours I would probably make them up but were donating to charity instead.

@hannah - you know when someone types in caps, it's like they're shouting? Well i read yours with a foghorn voice in my head lol!!

My brother (thankfully he's a graphic designer!) made our STDs (well I put them together lol) and is doing our invites. I'm making guest book, post box, table plan, table names, place names, possibly our favours depending on what we go for, hopefully doing our own centrepieces as well. Think that's it.

@rachel - you are getting married the day before us! and it looks like we have the same colour scheme! I have that guest book which I'm going to be decorating, I also have those butterflies (used them on my STD's) lol!

We are making our own stationary, with things bought from various craft shops! I have bought very cheap blank name cards from hobby craft to fill in.

I got my tiara and jewelry very cheap on the high street and a brand new veil from ebay at one tenth of the bridal shop prices! We aren't making our favours but hobby craft have tons of stuff to make them cheaply.

We searched around for a small local florist who doesnt use interflora so she was much cheaper.

Lots of people on here have made some amazing things themselves, sure you'll get lots of ideas!

LOVE THEM! Did you add the crystals yourself? If so where do you get these? I want to do the same to my shoes but wasn't sure what to use. Are they sticky already??
